Cité de Carcassonne, a fully restored, fortified French town dates back more than 2,000 years. This site is widely considered one of the best examples of a well-preserved medieval city with heavy fortifications. A classic fortress on a high peak features architectural influences from the Romans, fifth-century Visigoths, and later occupants. • A totally amazing place. As all shops and restaurants are currently closed, it is wonderfully devoid of crowds. You can walk all around the ramparts and then take your time looking at the buildings inside. It's an incredible fortress. There are outer walls, then more ramparts and then inside the walls there's the original chateau, a church and many restaurants and boutiques. Really quite stunning
  • What a Fantastic Place. Lots of cafes bars n restaurants. Pop up bars and snack bars after John Legend concert in the arena were great. Absolutely packed Bastille Day but really good later in week. Try the Adelaide Restaurant ! It was so hot when we were there we never did the walls. You need to get there!
  • My favourite city break. The city has lots of good places to eat, historic buildings, and quaint gift shops. Easy flight from UK around 2hrs. This region of South West France has a lot to offer. Lots of history, and beautiful countryside.
  • Cité de Carcassonne is a fun day out for the family with plenty of activities to do. Can be very hot walking around the city during summer but there is shade to use as cover. Make sure you arrive in the morning before all the tourists arrive to ensure a enjoyable trip. There are a vast number of restaurants and cafes to get drinks and food. Although, the tourist souvenir shops can be quite expensive, so if you are looking to go on a budget, maybe avoid them. Overall Cité de Carcassonne is an enjoyable day trip that doesn’t get boring too quickly.
  • It's a nice place to visit, the narrow streets are filled with shops and restaurants making it an extremely commercial area instead of a historical one. There is a paid entrance of €14 per person to enjoy the inner walls and the towers of the castle but if you don't pay you will only be able to walk between the stores and restaurants and will only wander around the curtain walls of the castle. There is a beautiful cathedral that is worth visiting and a few open courts that take you back in time.
