  • What to do in wet weather, when we are on vacation... and we begin to feel depressed!... Nothing better than to visit a good chocolate factory, like the Basque country has the secret!... Because it is well known that chocolate gives morale! "The origin of the chocolate in the basque country" 'he was once an angel who guided a mysterious sailboat with the blanks filled with cocoa to the port of Bayonne. He offered his beans to its inhabitants and taught them even the art of making good chocolate. "Here's to the legend that gives a certain poetry to the entrance of chocolate in France. In reality, hunted by the inquisition, in the early years of the seventeenth century, Portuguese Jews landed at Bayonne. For some, in their luggage the precious knowledge and technique of making chocolate, discovered a century earlier in America. Ecrasant the beans on a heated stone, was extracted cocoa powder that was mixed with milk or water, sugar and spices, a delicious drink. Soon the basques began to enjoy and, in fact, was born a corporation of chocolatiers who, century after century assimilated technical innovations, improved the quality of its products. At that time, the manufacturing of chocolate spreads also in many cities of the basque country: Biarritz, Cambo, low-Francisco, Espelette, Hasparren, Labastide Clairence, Saint Etienne de Baigorry, Saint Jean Pied de Port, Holy Palace, Ustaritz. -Our visit to the Museum of the chocolate factory PUYODEBAT enabled us to discover the local history of chocolate through parts of collections, tools and unusual machines (as these stones and machinery to grind the cocoa bean mechanical and hydraulic tracing more than 200 years of manufacturing history)... that arouse the curiosity! As well as a rich collection of chocolate, cups "at whiskers',... and advertising of all kinds. Visit that ends with a nice chocolate tasting "grand cru", at different rates of cocoa, made on the premises.

  • For lovers of old containers and old machines. The tasting scheduled before the release helps to better understand the tastes and flavours. Allow 1 hour 30.
