Musee des Beaux-Arts de Caen, a fine arts museum in Caen, was founded at the start of the 19th century and rebuilt in 1971 within the ducal château. Its many treasures include various Italian, Flemish, French Renaissance and contemporary artworks. Admire paintings, drawings, sculptures, miniatures, and much more.   • The exhibits I preferred most were the first ones of the 15th - 16th Italian Renaissance, quite stunning although as a friend remarked there were a lot of them. The floor plan is a challenge as is fin...  more »
  • A varied museography that renews itself by approaches cross between contemporary and classic art. A wonderful scenography. Mediation for all public workshops. A must-see.

  • It will welcome the excellent initiative of the Museum to dedicate this exhibition to the great Fritz Thaulow, Norwegian painter that we did not know and who seduced us with his talent to return almost perfectly the elements... Very studied arrangement of the exhibition turns to discover the talent of the artist to evoke scenes rustic, urban or industrial elements and landscapes of nature... A painter of genius not to be missed... Only downside: an unworthy store of that name who did almost nothing to offer about the artist - selection of maps of the temporary exhibition very limit, no magnet, catalogue sold out (Fortunately we had bought it in the bookstore well before the visit). A big effort at the level of personnel - with the exception of cash - now decentralized in the chapel between the Museum of fine arts and the Museum of Normandy...

  • "Mug shot"! How is it possible in 2016 in wanting to make the most attractive France for tourists to close at lunch time? We retort personnel savings or the 35 hours and well be: close earlier but please leave this museum - Moreover remarkable - open at lunch time!
