In repentance for marrying, cousins William the Conqueror and Mathilda of Flanders ordered Abbaye aux Dames built along with its neighbor, Abbaye aux Hommes (Men's Abbey). The women's abbey was dedicated to the Holy Trinity. Each church is considered one of the most notable Romanesque buildings in Normandy. Built in Caen stone during the 11th century, both churches had the ribbed vault, used for the first time in France, added to them in about 1120.   • He must go out from the city center and the beaten up there. But it's worth the trip. Beautiful Romanesque homogeneity, beautiful light, beautiful spirit of the place. Worth the drive.

  • The difference had to be and was given, but within an order and an admirable quality. The result is that fall has a first-order every few meters work... and we continue to benefit from such splendor. But not bad compare this inequality between men and women, although it certainly happens in all religions and all walks of life.

  • The Abbey for women is linked to the story of Guillaume the Conqueror and his wife Mathilde. It is a beautiful, historic place. A must-see when visiting Caen.
