Cloitre de Cadouin, Cadouin

(3.7/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
Built in the 12th century and renovated in the 15th, Cloitre de Cadouin represents a Gothic architectural gem. For centuries, monks here devoted their lives to prayer and hosted the shroud of Cadouin, long believed to have been the cloth placed on Jesus' face after his crucifixion. In the past, pilgrims visited and venerated this cloth, believed to possess healing properties. Today, you can tour the cloister and visit a reproduction of the shroud. • Beautiful cloister which are worth to be seen. Unfortunately I have not the chance to have a guided tour that day. The audio guide offers very good comments but you get lost sometimes (orientation of our look has hardly arise on a figure described by the audio guide so there are sculptures). On the other hand, I loved the videos and interview which decorate the visit. The welcome is warm. I will return for a guided tour.

  • Very nice place, but other than going around the square (admittedly very nice) nothing else to see, we stay hungry. Price of the visit 6,80 euros a bit expensive knowing that if you want an audioguide is 3 euros more.

  • Beautiful architecture for such a small village, Cadouin Abbey is a must see for lovers of beautiful stones

  • Nice for what it is. However, you have to pay € 7.0.-per person for a ride around the courtyard. That is also really literally everything. Pretty courtyard garden, beautiful walls, but 7 euro for 10 minutes to a courtyard garden is going too far.

  • Superb restoration of the cloister. The sculptures are beautiful. The ticket price is a bit high though!

  • Beautiful cloister, fine restoration. A bit expensive ticket

  • It was closed in March, possibly for being low season. Despite this the village has much charm and the Church and Abbey look much from the outside. If you come from Beaumont or surrounding it costs nothing to pass and stop.
