Cloitre de Cadouin, Cadouin

3.6
Built in the 12th century and renovated in the 15th, Cloitre de Cadouin represents a Gothic architectural gem. For centuries, monks here devoted their lives to prayer and hosted the shroud of Cadouin, long believed to have been the cloth placed on Jesus' face after his crucifixion. In the past, pilgrims visited and venerated this cloth, believed to possess healing properties. Today, you can tour the cloister and visit a reproduction of the shroud. • A rich site that deserves to be visited with caution. The use of audio-guide brings a lot of useful information to the visit.

  • Old abbey from around 12th. On the way is Saint Jacobs route
  • Entry fee is ridiculously high, but you soon discover this place has a long history of fleecing tourists.
  • What a wonderful testimony of our past... Haven of peace... Expensive maybe but this money is used to restore this invaluable heritage, so contributing... Also fun exploring the symbolism of the primes in the ornamentation of pillars...

  • The cloisters are always little bits of tranquility. This one is particularly beautiful and peaceful. Of beautiful fairly well preserved bas-relief and the famous fake shroud bonus, funny story! The entry is quite expensive anyway (€7 adults), I do think that the tour is frankly necessary, you are provided with paper documents at the entrance + Wikipedia or the audio guide to download on AppStore or Playstore. Don't miss it in any case!
