Ile d'Ouessant, Brittany
(4.4/5 based on 95+ reviews on the web)
Board a passenger ferry or plane and go to Ile d'Ouessant, the only place in Brittany (Bretagne) that has a different name in English: "Ushant." This island has a maritime past as a fishing community and as a key landmark of the Channel Islands. Interestingly, circumnavigations of the globe usually start and finish between Ushant and Lizard Point. Watch for the Créac'h lighthouse that is reputedly the most powerful in the world. Visit the island to find out why many authors have made literary references to the island's distinct cultural heritage. • A friendly site, beautiful views and lots of photos. The Museum of the lighthouses and beacons is interesting. The visit by minibus was pleasant. Only downside: many cars for such a small island.

  • Passage in finistere, we did fail to take a little break on this island. After 45 minutes of boat arrived on the island, we could take a minibus that took us in center town (about 4km from the port) and visit the island with this same minibus (2 hours of guided tour). We enjoyed a panorama stunning hand and on the other, with these different also atypical houses from each other, old wells of water, these lighthouses of sizes and colours changing and original. The guide knows the stories of the island on the tip of the fingers, and shares them with pleasure. Only downside, we could not focus on museums and other sites of the island.

  • Of course, there are bikes... but most interesting paths, especially on the coast are prohibited or inaccessible by bike. Is required of good walking shoes, the landscapes are splendid. A true feeling of being outside the continent...
