Chateau de la Roche-Jagu, Brittany

4.6
#24 of 93 in Parks in Brittany
As the only survivor of ten fortresses along this valley in medieval times, Chateau de la Roche-Jagu is a Gothic fortress built in the 15th century and restored in 1968. The staggering number of chimneys (19) form a row along the crest of the building that looks like a defense structure, while the façade on the other side is more charming with many windows and an eccentric tower perched up high. The interior houses many of the county’s hidden maritime treasures on view for you. The ride around the grounds of this cross between a country villa and a castle is very pleasant, and it's free. We are not entered, because inside then the castles they resemble almost all but the visit was very pleasant from the outside. Ample parking, this also doesn't charge.

We did not visit the inside of the Castle (the ground floor is free, the floor is paid), we did the full walk of the Park, which takes at least 1 h 30. The Park is very well kept, the richness and diversity of plants as well as different points of view make a beautiful place. We were also able to test a range of old games available to the public, in front of the Castle, where big and small is a lot of fun. Only downside, the restaurant where it was impossible to book because it was already apparently complete and we have been asked to return at 1: 30 p.m. telling us we could lunch if there is still something to eat. Back at 1.30 pm we were told that there was an accident in the kitchen and everything fell down. Either, we have not encountered a good day, but thirsty by our walk, we decide everything Similarly, we install (almost deserted) terrace to drink a glass, but we left 15 minutes later, still too thirsty because the amorphous waitresses never found the way to our table...

The gardens here are absolutely incredible. The castle itself was interesting, but I would go here for the gardens alone. Unlike anything I have ever experienced in my life.

One of the nicest castle in Brittany. Wonderful park where you can walk for hours.

If you expect to see historical items, you will be very disappointed. There is nothing! The castle had been renovated in 1964 and contains a nature exhibition but no historical things like furniture, weapons, armour etc.
