Architectural Building
Considered a masterpiece of late Gothic architecture, Palais Jacques Coeur is considered one of the finest and most magnificent civic buildings from the 15th century. Great care was taken to make the palace comfortable, hence the addition of modern plumbing and hygienic washrooms with flushing toilets. The private apartments and reception rooms have richly carved and decorated fireplaces. Take the time to explore the different sections that are uniquely linked by an arrangement of passages, spiral staircases, and galleries--you might just find a secret passageway leading to a mysterious destination. With our custom trip planner, Bourges attractions like Palais Jacques Coeur can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • A great tour interesting and allows to find out more about this wonderful place. Without our guide, we would never have seen the little Red Riding Hood in the sculptures! The guided tour is normally not intended for young children, but the guide is wonderfully adapted to them

  • It is a nice medieval laïque house to visit, however there are nicer examples in the Loira area.
  • Very nice home which allows to plunge into a turbulent historical period and to rediscover the importance of Bourges in the same period. We are told a little to envy the poor Jacques Coeur's fees of Charles VII's Royal ambitions (.. .know all it was his role) and his entourage, without another element of understanding. Beyond the remarkable architectural door, this Palace a little soul. To not miss passing to Bourges.

  • THE PALAIS JACQUES CŒUR it is in 1443 that Jacques Cœur, the glitzy Grand new coin of King Charles VII, gave begin construction of his palace. The façade we won't go too fast in this luxurious home. Even before in walked through the front door, we notice, under windows, friezes formed of scallops and alternate hearts. The rebus is simple: the shell evokes St. Jacques, the patronymic saint of the new coin, and the heart, his family name. But the shell, it's also the Mérelle of Compostela, which in the alchemical symbolism, means mercury, while the heart represents sulfur. The tympanum of the door - always outdoors - shows an Angel carrying a pot where a plant thrives in his left hand, and pointing his right hand a phylactery, it juts between two trees that seem to be a fig tree (left), and a date palm. Under his feet, the ecu of Jacques Cœur: three hearts and three merelles. Side and on the other of the shield, plants show a country place.
