Monastère Royal de Brou, Bourg-en-Bresse

(4.7/5 based on 500+ reviews on the web)
Monastère Royal de Brou is the burial place of French royalty, and the architecture of this structure recalls the ghosts of the royal personages enclosed in its crypts. You will discover an extravagant Gothic church with a mosaic tiled roof as the centerpiece of the monastic grounds. The church was commissioned in the 16th century by Maragaret of Austria, daughter of the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian. In 1922, the municipality installed an art collection in the monks' former quarters, where artwork from the 13th to the 20th century adorn the Renaissance walls.  Make Monastère Royal de Brou a centerpiece of your Bourg-en-Bresse vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Bourg-en-Bresse family vacation planner.

  • If you are in St. Petersburg, you won't be able to escape from the visit of the monastery and I strongly advise you to do the tour which will reveal the history of the monastery but that you will also discover small details hidden from the monastery! Bravo for the maintenance, to the staff who you charm of history!

  • It's beautiful! a spacious, airy, luminous architecture that we are not necessarily used according to where we come from. A superb example of (true) jube, so rare are today, a few tiles pavement still in place, very beautiful recumbent. I followed partially the tour strongly interesting but attention that stops in the Church. We don't accompany you on the whole big enough site. Predict a 2-hour window seems to be honest otherwise you'll miss out on part of the site. Museum part with lapidary deposit. A moving place. A remake without hesitation.
