Monastère Royal de Brou, Bourg-en-Bresse
Categories: Architectural Buildings, Churches, Tourist Spots
Monastère Royal de Brou is the burial place of French royalty, and the architecture of this structure recalls the ghosts of the royal personages enclosed in its crypts. You will discover an extravagant Gothic church with a mosaic tiled roof as the centerpiece of the monastic grounds. The church was commissioned in the 16th century by Maragaret of Austria, daughter of the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian. In 1922, the municipality installed an art collection in the monks' former quarters, where artwork from the 13th to the 20th century adorn the Renaissance walls. Make Monastère Royal de Brou a centerpiece of your Bourg-en-Bresse vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Bourg-en-Bresse family vacation planner.

Do not hesitate to take an audio guide but the ideal is the guided tour because it is through this you can add the small history to the great. My wife was able to receive the benefit, then that for my part I content myself with the audio guide. Yes, as in many such buildings, small dogs are not allowed, except when they are in marble on tombs. Way, I find again and again this unjust ban, because masters officials and perfectly educated dogs which warm in their master's arms may not interfere with or create disorder. But I understand that it is easier to ban than to provide amenities, such as for example at the Abbey of Fontevraud, which offers a place closed quiet for our little 4-legged friends, evidence that there are positive opportunities. However do not pass close to London without stopping at the monastery because it is a remarkable monument with a beautiful romantic story. We found parts clauses or transformation, but it is of course for a good cause.show original

The story of Marguerite of Austria is exciting... and moving also. Built to the glory of her late husband, Philibert the handsome, this construction is also the most beautiful manifestation of love him. To admire the fine lace of carved stones, thus the sumptuous roof in glazed tiles: this monastery is an absolute masterpiece!show original
