Trip Planner: Europe / France / Nouvelle-Aquitaine / Charente-Maritime / Marennes / Bourcefranc le Chapus / Fort Louvois
Known locally as ‘Fort Du Chapus’, the Fort Louvois was constructed between the years 1691 and 1694 during the reign of Louis XIV. The fort is approximately 400 meters (1,300 feet) off the nearest shore. The Fort saw its first action towards the tail end of World War II and needed intensive restoration post the war. Tourists can partake in an exhibition that describes the fort’s history or indulge themselves at an oyster farming museum also located here. The fort itself is in the shape of a horse-shoe. Take a look at our Marennes tour planner to schedule your visit to Fort Louvois and learn about what else to see and do during your holiday.

Visite très apprécié du fort. La traversée en bateau est très agréable pour ensuite revenir à pied. Les enfants sont au cœur de cette visite ce qui est fort agréable. A faire sans hésiter pour un tari... more »Popular tour of the fort. The boat trip is very nice to walk back then. Children are at the heart of this visit which is very nice. Do again for a relatively reasonable price.

Good to see!
Bertrand DamonJuly 27, 2017Very interesting. Friendly staff. He must look at the tides for feet and back by boat when the path is submerged (or vice versa). Guided tour to make and treasure hunt for children. All this for 7euros.
Jocelyne DulacJuly 29, 2017View of the viaduct it seems small but closely you can see a beautiful building of fert horseshoe-shaped. The guide explains. And the texts are very clear. It is nice to be able to put the costumes wigs... It's a nice view d on top of the tower. It is very clean and clear. Good foot check tide times
Jessy jamesJuly 20, 2017Top, the super nice explanation simple, clear, not boring like some visit guide who drags in length. Can go a foot at low tide or small shuttle has take to the port and back less than 10 minutes. Not to be missed... My son 5 years loved
Falk KotschaJuly 21, 2017Very beautiful Fort. Shuttle ferry is free of charge. At low tide, you can walk on foot to the Fort. Ideal for a family outing because the history of puzzles and games are taught children. You can attract even costumes.
