#2 of 11 in Things to do in Marennes
Known locally as ‘Fort Du Chapus’, the Fort Louvois was constructed between the years 1691 and 1694 during the reign of Louis XIV. The fort is approximately 400 meters (1,300 feet) off the nearest shore. The Fort saw its first action towards the tail end of World War II and needed intensive restoration post the war. Tourists can partake in an exhibition that describes the fort’s history or indulge themselves at an oyster farming museum also located here. The fort itself is in the shape of a horse-shoe. • Horse at the foot of the bridge to the island of Oléron "is an Oyster at all", a central keep protected by a drawbridge and a moat, the barracks, the food, the powder magazine, the guard corps Hall... He has an air of a castle from the middle ages, the fort is connected to the tip of the CC by a submersible floor of 400 m. Can be accessed on foot or by boat Shuttle, an unusual and surprising visit, A few kilometers of the Chateau-d'oleron Citadel is a must visit site and surrounded by a park of agrementation CHASSIRON Lighthouse-shaped wind rose. Two nice walks visited who close the tourist day...

  • After admiring the Fort Louvois far and well done, very interesting visit, discovered inside the fort and commented by Élodie who is a nice person who takes pleasure to tell us every step of the Fort Louvois. I was going to forget the boat ride was super nice.

  • Good to see!
  • Very interesting. Friendly staff. He must look at the tides for feet and back by boat when the path is submerged (or vice versa). Guided tour to make and treasure hunt for children. All this for 7euros.

  • View of the viaduct it seems small but closely you can see a beautiful building of fert horseshoe-shaped. The guide explains. And the texts are very clear. It is nice to be able to put the costumes wigs... It's a nice view d on top of the tower. It is very clean and clear. Good foot check tide times

  • Top, the super nice explanation simple, clear, not boring like some visit guide who drags in length. Can go a foot at low tide or small shuttle has take to the port and back less than 10 minutes. Not to be missed... My son 5 years loved
