Historic Site Tourist Spot
Known locally as ‘Fort Du Chapus’, the Fort Louvois was constructed between the years 1691 and 1694 during the reign of Louis XIV. The fort is approximately 400 meters (1,300 feet) off the nearest shore. The Fort saw its first action towards the tail end of World War II and needed intensive restoration post the war. Tourists can partake in an exhibition that describes the fort’s history or indulge themselves at an oyster farming museum also located here. The fort itself is in the shape of a horse-shoe. • May 04, 2017: few visitors in this morning where we took the (free) Shuttle barge for we make the work of Vauban: the fort was ours! A nice tour for € 7. Activities for children and adults (costumes in costumes of the time) and a game of investigation is planned. The Manager of the site we to kindly brought further history on other sites in the region related to the protection of Rochefort in expectation of the shuttle back.

  • Really very nice to do the driveway crossing or back with the "barge" at high tide. Interior of the very many things and activities for adults and children, time passes too quickly. AM great advise.
