Le Prieure de Serrabona, Boule-d'Amont

Take in views of the oak forests and surrounding mountains at Le Prieure de Serrabona, a former monastery famed for its marble Romanesque rostrum from the 12th century. The origins of the priory go back to the 10th century, but most of the remaining architecture was constructed in the 12th century, including a transept and three apses, a cloister, and a bell tower. The walls of the nave provide a good example of the thick rubble stone construction. Enter the cloister to find a variety of sculptures in pink marble, all reflecting a high level of craftsmanship. Le Prieure de Serrabona is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our custom trip planner, Boule-d'Amont Edition.

  • Must-have for any fan of Romanesque art. Located in a mountain setting that is immutable, this Priory conceals a treasure worth to him only the detour. Lost in the mountains, orphan of the surrounding villages, the austerity that emerges from the building gives off is misleading... A few steps more... And here a RARE jube! The stones the dressing and the capitals adorning it are among the most accomplished on all levels: symbolic, artistic, chromatic, humorous same tonewood faces whose expressions have nothing to envy to the best funny of margin of manuscripts. In addition, the explanation of a very knowledgeable guide on local Romanesque art, true dive in the collection of the zodiac. Panorama and lovely walks in the local area, not to mention the garden of the simple filled with many species magnified by the Sun of the country at the entrance.

  • The monastery with the Church of Sainte-Marie de Serrabona is located somewhat, after numerous hairpin bends in the middle of the mountains. Founded in the 11th century after Christ. Featured capitals, cloister and Gallery. Great views of the countryside. Also a walk or hike from there is recommended.

  • Full of curves long road to the top of the mountain and finally, beautiful, breathtaking view - unbelievable experience. Visit in old monastery , partially made from real Roman architecture elements is like trip in time. Fantastic place, silent and magical
  • Wonderful location, beautiful romanesque church, fantastic stone carvings.
  • Migperdut through the Pyrenees, is one of those places that doesn't have the Majesty of Cuixà Abbey, or the spectacular surroundings of the Abbey of Mont Canigou, but the setting exudes peace and harmony. In my opinion, worth it go many kilometers of winding narrow road to enjoy this small wonder.

  • It's curious to discover this Priory at the end of the road that seems endless. But the quality of the sculptures on the capitals and the jube really deserve the trip.

  • the calm and serenity... I did not know the true silence... the place is beautiful... It is a pity that the place is sometimes marred by exhibitions of contemporary artist
