The Fort de Brégançon served as the official retreat of the President of France from 1968 to 2013. It will become a national monument.LocationIt rests on a small island off the French Mediterranean coast. It is connected by a short causeway to the mainland and lies in the commune of Bormes-les-Mimosas in the Var department.HistoryThe fort became a presidential residence in 1968 during the presidency of Charles de Gaulle (1890–1970).It was used only once by President Nicolas Sarkozy and his ex-wife Cecilia. It was also only used once by President François Hollande and his partner Valérie Trierweiler, in the summer of 2012, when it was discovered it wasn't sufficiently private, and too easy of a target for papparazzi. In October 2013, it was announced it would become a national monument open to the public, in an effort to reduce state expenditure. Indeed, the maintenance and staffing of the property cost £200,000 a year. Instead, La Lanterne, a hunting lodge in Versailles will become the official retreat of the French President.

  • No visit in February. The place seems a little deserted see abandoned. It's strange for a presidential residence. No security guard, military... Picnic Beach area nearby. See if you walk the coastal path otherwise not really worth the detour.

  • of the very sheltered and very pleasant beach. However, the parking lot is small, summer, it must be quite stressful, especially since the place is reserved for heads of State.

  • So we get there at the gate. What we have to pay for parking!? What we have to buy a ticket to just get to the Fort!? What we can't buy the tickets there at the location!? So I was bit frustrated and was not the coolest guy to be around. However we were able to purchase the tickets online before the next tour. This is when I started to feel bad for my attitude toward the staff and started enjoying the beautiful scenery of both the location and smiles. Marie the tour guide was the most wonderful and charismatic person. Enthused about Fort de Bregancon she captivated both the crowd and me to the point where I stopped listening and started wondering if she was single.
  • très beau cadre
  • A visit at least once but ban to photograph the Interior which my time this my not disturb too dated when have we announces the price of a rug or OMG site outdoor tableware is nice nice view on the coast and the Sea (€5 parking fee sensing your tour and more ticket because no place to Park) a beautiful beach

  • Beautiful place and visit to make absolutely. Anticipate 1 h 30 visit of the fort and the apartments and 30 minutes in the gardens with an exceptional view... This is a (domestic) visit of our former heads of State history and current

  • Very cute and although small, it is a good experience, you have to book in advance, there's an electric minibus which picks you up, between the beach and the pine forest, the path is short but nice and the view from the Fort is very nice. The parking is big and is in a pine forest, the eateries are good, and the beach of Gabasson is big and very nice.
