The Fort de Brégançon served as the official retreat of the President of France from 1968 to 2013. It will become a national monument.LocationIt rests on a small island off the French Mediterranean coast. It is connected by a short causeway to the mainland and lies in the commune of Bormes-les-Mimosas in the Var department.HistoryThe fort became a presidential residence in 1968 during the presidency of Charles de Gaulle (1890–1970).It was used only once by President Nicolas Sarkozy and his ex-wife Cecilia. It was also only used once by President François Hollande and his partner Valérie Trierweiler, in the summer of 2012, when it was discovered it wasn't sufficiently private, and too easy of a target for papparazzi. In October 2013, it was announced it would become a national monument open to the public, in an effort to reduce state expenditure. Indeed, the maintenance and staffing of the property cost 200,000 euro a year. Instead, La Lanterne, a hunting lodge in Versailles will become the official retreat of the French President.

  • Full story visit. The place has nothing Grand to the level of benefits, but the views are superb. I understand that presidents don't come more. Lack of comfort and we must get bored in an environment also closes...

  • a month ago - bought by internet 3 tickets to visit the fort of Brégançon on 26 July 2017 arrived on-site the day even every street closures (fire) while I had just 100 km from my place of vacation (think you that could have been me pre) come by sending a sms? ) I call the tourist information office of Bormes mimosas which tells me that if I want to get my money back j "have to write to the monument in Paris? This will make almost 4 months that I expected my refund I called told me that it was long and it was not an obligation however it didn't long for me. The person who cares is only to manage all that work (she must be a folder per day) I find it outrageous even officials OVERWHELMED what contempt for the users that we are!

  • So we get there at the gate. What we have to pay for parking!? What we have to buy a ticket to just get to the Fort!? What we can't buy the tickets there at the location!? So I was bit frustrated and was not the coolest guy to be around. However we were able to purchase the tickets online before the next tour. This is when I started to feel bad for my attitude toward the staff and started enjoying the beautiful scenery of both the location and smiles. Marie the tour guide was the most wonderful and charismatic person. Enthused about Fort de Bregancon she captivated both the crowd and me to the point where I stopped listening and started wondering if she was single.
  • One more star if there was an English speaking guide.
  • In mistral weather ( big wind ) it was great ... it accentuates the contrast of the landscape ... I have not visited the fortress of the president, but I made the rolling stone on the coastal paths ...(les sentiers du littoral ). the parking is not free ... Maybe the commune has no money ..... a little surprised anyway. .. here we murder the tourists with exhorbitant prices .. damned ... The restaurant frenchy of proximity is shabby and expensive. ...
