Fort de Bregancon, Bormes-Les-Mimosas

The Fort de Brégançon served as the official retreat of the President of France from 1968 to 2013. It will become a national monument.LocationIt rests on a small island off the French Mediterranean coast. It is connected by a short causeway to the mainland and lies in the commune of Bormes-les-Mimosas in the Var department.HistoryThe fort became a presidential residence in 1968 during the presidency of Charles de Gaulle (1890–1970).It was used only once by President Nicolas Sarkozy and his ex-wife Cecilia. It was also only used once by President François Hollande and his partner Valérie Trierweiler, in the summer of 2012, when it was discovered it wasn't sufficiently private, and too easy of a target for papparazzi. In October 2013, it was announced it would become a national monument open to the public, in an effort to reduce state expenditure. Indeed, the maintenance and staffing of the property cost 200,000 euro a year. Instead, La Lanterne, a hunting lodge in Versailles will become the official retreat of the French President.

  • Vacationing in the Var, we went to visit the Fort, majestic on his rock. must reserve by internet, very easy, you can choose easily the hours and day. the ticket price is €10 guided tour. When leave you your car at the parking lot, special price by presenting the e-ticket to the Fort, then a minibus comes get you in front of the gate of the Fort. A beautiful view, we did not visit the apartments but parts that we could see, allowed us when us soak up places, not too sophisticated gardens which make their charm, a very competent Aurélie guide. A small beach private for the President and his family. Thanks for opening this place to the public

  • We bought tickets online for the strong (or you can buy them at home). We introduced ourselves as described 10 minutes before departure. Some problems of repeater to display tickets online but then everything went well. The minibus (electric) takes visitors up to the Fort, then part of the guided tour (unfortunately for us the girl did not know the language so we made the whole visit in French). The Fort is situated on a small island, visiting the exterior you have amazing views, amazing sea view. Inside you can visit the various rooms, all very interesting. Then finally the garden. Worth a visit

  • The fort is located in a beautiful place, but alas, a few months forest area burned and it is distressing! The view is beautiful sea side, but on the side of Earth, charred hills. Our guide, a friendly young girl gave us an interesting tour. I was a little disappointed by the building which has not always been well restored. The parts that you can visit feel moisture, contain furniture modern and old (Louis XV), according to the tastes of the presidents. This gives a rather cold and impersonal set. See, however, to get an idea, and perhaps to understand why presidents don't stay there not more often!

  • So we get there at the gate. What we have to pay for parking!? What we have to buy a ticket to just get to the Fort!? What we can't buy the tickets there at the location!? So I was bit frustrated and was not the coolest guy to be around. However we were able to purchase the tickets online before the next tour. This is when I started to feel bad for my attitude toward the staff and started enjoying the beautiful scenery of both the location and smiles. Marie the tour guide was the most wonderful and charismatic person. Enthused about Fort de Bregancon she captivated both the crowd and me to the point where I stopped listening and started wondering if she was single.
  • One more star if there was an English speaking guide.
  • In mistral weather ( big wind ) it was great ... it accentuates the contrast of the landscape ... I have not visited the fortress of the president, but I made the rolling stone on the coastal paths ...(les sentiers du littoral ). the parking is not free ... Maybe the commune has no money ..... a little surprised anyway. .. here we murder the tourists with exhorbitant prices .. damned ... The restaurant frenchy of proximity is shabby and expensive. ...
