Come here to take a tram, bus, shuttle, or coach--or just to see the amazing sculptures and monuments, some dating from the early 1800s. These artworks include, among others: two 1829 rostral columns that are 21 m (69 ft) tall and symbolize commerce and navigation; the 1858 white-marble statues of the famed French philosophers Montaigne and Montesquieu; the Girondists monument that was erected in the memory of those killed during the Revolution’s Reign of Terror; and statues dedicated to the Eloquence, the Republic, and Liberty. Where to stay in Bordeaux

Most hotels in Bordeaux sit conveniently located a stone's throw away from the train station. Look to Quinconces Square and Gambetta Square for high-end hotels. Those who prefer more budget-friendly accommodations may want to seek out a youth hostel--a relatively recent addition to the city. To secure a spot here, make sure to book ahead of time. In addition to hotels and hostels, choose from guest rooms in a typical Bordeaux house, or a family-friendly beachside campsite.

  • A fine tree-lined prospect leading to the Girondin monument but running two tram lines down it is not exactly an enhancement.  more »
  • Quinconces is a very large space which feels like something between a park and a town square. At one end, it abuts the riverfront area and has a couple of gleaming marble colums. At the other end it i...  more »
  • In a city with more than it's fair share this is yet another one to admire and appreciate. Again it has the near river setting.  more »

  • A really large glass of white Bordeaux for only 5 euros, sauvignon worth a little more. The Art deco style would need refreshening but it remains charming though.
  • Great food
  • The service is pleasant enough but sometimes approximate. I claimed cutlery for my meal but I have to leave the table to ask again and my flat already too warm summer. Salmon in fair entrance, the bar was sold worldwide but present in nets, practically inedible. Dessert very plain (Melba peach). Hot red wine is cooled in the bucket for white wine. For 39.90 euros menu, I'm not sure.

  • Scoring almost a year after... In the month of August, one of the few good restaurants in Bordeaux not closed. Quality of service and the food. Some cheap, well served dishes.

  • Friendly despite a simple lunch dish + glass of wine at an affordable price. Very decent for the area!
