Landmark Tourist Spot
The reflection of the palace on the grounds of Place de la Bourse (Place Royale) creates the largest water mirror effect in the world. This is a public square, but the palace called Palais de la Bourse on the grounds showcases French classical architecture and the art of the 18th century. On either side of the central pavilion, you'll see Hôtel des Fermes and Hôtel de la Bourse. The famous "Three Graces Fountain,” representing Aglaia, Euphrosyne, and Thalia, the daughters of Zeus, stands at the center of the square. For travelers who use our online itinerary creator, Bordeaux holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Place de la Bourse (Place Royale) and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

Where to stay in Bordeaux

Most hotels in Bordeaux sit conveniently located a stone's throw away from the train station. Look to Quinconces Square and Gambetta Square for high-end hotels. Those who prefer more budget-friendly accommodations may want to seek out a youth hostel--a relatively recent addition to the city. To secure a spot here, make sure to book ahead of time. In addition to hotels and hostels, choose from guest rooms in a typical Bordeaux house, or a family-friendly beachside campsite.

  • I recommend the evening to view from sunset to darkness as you will get the best reflection of the mirror and the mist rising which makes this quite magical. Also there are less people and no children...  more »
  • Riverside outlook across the water mirrors provided a useful stopping spot while we strolled around the old city. Lovely architecture and good spot for watching people.  more »

  • Beautiful. The fountains do not always have water running.great to see at night!
  • Through our tour of Europe, we chose Bordeaux as an opposite of Paris. We almost missed this, although we looked for it. You may as well, but if you can find some shade, it is nice to hang out near.
  • Its magnificient and grand... Words cant explain the beauty.
  • Amazing place! If only the lights and water had come on when I was there! Nonetheless, a beautiful sight. Big open area to sit and watch the world go by!
  • My husband and I have been there 3 times. Once we went there around 12 am. In one word - MAGICAL.
