Escalier du Roi d'Aragon (King Aragon Steps), Bonifacio

4.4
According to legend, Escalier du Roi d'Aragon (King Aragon Steps) was carved from the steep cliff in a single night during Alfonso V's siege of the town in 1420. In fact, it was constructed earlier by an older Franciscan monk, who devised an easy access to the water source and the cave at the base of their monastery. The staircase leads to the sea, offering you a unique opportunity to swim at the foot of the cliffs. By boat, you can see the stairway all the way up the side of a cliff that looks like a hollow tube in the stone. You can walk the entire 187 steps, inclined at an angle of 45 degrees, overlooking the sea. • Very nice view, do not miss! Attention however descending the stairs, for children too young to avoid.

  • Steep, and one goes down we already know the effort it will take to get back. But the visit is worth the effort to return. Arrival to the cave is amazing. I say no more, but discover it.

  • Interesting attraction, also in light of the legends it is surrounded by regarding its extremely rapid construction. Beware of the insanely steep stairway, which threatens knees upon descent and challenges cardio endurance upon ascent.. Worth a shot nonetheless!
  • Simply stunning!!! The landscape is really incredible and the stairs quite spectacular. It is best to carry small children in a backpack or similar in my opinion, as the dance provided little protection for the little ones in places.
  • Nice historical venue, the stairs (carved on the rock) go all the way down to the water. Certainly worth the visit and the effort ( over 180 steps...)
  • This is a really cool spot in Bonifacio. After you reach the end of the stairs the view is just breathtaking!
  • Amazinggggg, magnifiqueee.Bonifaccio, Corse.
