Escalier du Roi d'Aragon (King Aragon Steps), Bonifacio
(4.6/5 based on 950+ reviews on the web)
According to legend, Escalier du Roi d'Aragon (King Aragon Steps) was carved from the steep cliff in a single night during Alfonso V's siege of the town in 1420. In fact, it was constructed earlier by an older Franciscan monk, who devised an easy access to the water source and the cave at the base of their monastery. The staircase leads to the sea, offering you a unique opportunity to swim at the foot of the cliffs. By boat, you can see the stairway all the way up the side of a cliff that looks like a hollow tube in the stone. You can walk the entire 187 steps, inclined at an angle of 45 degrees, overlooking the sea. • This staircase gives a wonderful view of the sea. It should, however, good physical condition, because there are a lot of markets go down and of course reassemble!

  • We loved the experience and especially children (6 and 4 years old). This is a new experience, the view is superb and it's fantastic enough to say that it was built by humans so inaccessible location.

  • Going down (and back up ...) these steep stairs were completely worth the effort. The path hewn into the side of the cliffs lets you get close to the sea and the views from there are amazing.

  • When we were in Bonifacio, by ferry from Santa Teresa, unfortunately we did not know of the staircase. Anyway my judgment I do ' from above ... Peace and health.
