Bonifacio Citadel, Bonifacio

(4.8/5 based on 1,900+ reviews on the web)
Built in the 9th century, Bonifacio Citadel is located on a sandstone promontory overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Today, it is more like a museum or a mini village packed with sun-bleached ramshackle houses. Walk the narrow passages to view artisans forging knives and carving wooden goods, and jewelers offering fashions made with the remarkably deep red coral indigenous to the area. Many restaurants, shops, and cafés line the walkways with outdoor seating areas overlooking the Mediterranean. Stroll the maze of alleyways with decorations and designs that go back to medieval times complete with a historical marine cemetery. • With the marine cemetery location and views are great. Walk off season.. .access car perfect.! Circuit to advise.

  • the place is original! looks like the cliffs of chalk as in Normandy, the view of Sardinia is interesting, but taking a parking season ticket on a stormy day, by blue tunics of the municipal! It's a fairly average way to welcome tourists. as everything is closed. also what a pity to drop in ruins of the barracks buildings. Bonifacio deserves better, because it has undeniable assets to be one of the tourist pearls of the Mediterranean.

  • We visited the Citadel of Ajaccio between Christmas and new year, perfect since we were among the few places visitors (the weather '18 degrees') and more. Everything was there: overview on the city, the beautiful marine cemetery, small streets, the "rare" but "nice" terraces open (at that time), the walkway etc... Stairs of Aragon closed at this time. Visit also the cutlery "terraces of aragon" (good value)
