Chateau Saint Ahon, Blanquefort

4.5
Once the home of French political philosopher and writer Charles de Montesquieu, Chateau Saint Ahon now houses an acclaimed winery that has been named a "remarkable monument" by the French government. The original structure was destroyed during the French Revolution, and the current version was reconstructed in 1875 in the Louis XIII style. Tour the house, vineyard, and winery--ending your journey with a wine tasting. To visit Chateau Saint Ahon and other attractions in Bordeaux, use our Bordeaux trip planner .

  • Worth the visit, whether for large or small, we appreciate the visit of the cellars and the Park. Children are fond of the ride and little games of questions and answers that are very interesting to learn the different stages of vinification. Their rates are reasonable if not rent their room for a rather privileged clientele.

  • The guided tour as one of the gardens have allowed us to spend a very nice time authentic and exotic. Don't miss: the shop! We have been very welcomed and recommended. For having tasted a few vintages products and different regional (wine of the Castle salt, Apple juice, terrines) we can tell you that you won't be disappointed!

  • the ride is very classic, you discover the history of the site at the discretion of panels (aging!), but it's still a good time. And the people in the shops were very friendly and competent.

  • Great way to spend a few hours and suitable for kids.
  • Lovely vineyard camping car site. 3 Euros per camping car. Quiet and beautiful and they have some very nice wines in their little shop.

Where to stay in Bordeaux

Most hotels in Bordeaux sit conveniently located a stone's throw away from the train station. Look to Quinconces Square and Gambetta Square for high-end hotels. Those who prefer more budget-friendly accommodations may want to seek out a youth hostel--a relatively recent addition to the city. To secure a spot here, make sure to book ahead of time. In addition to hotels and hostels, choose from guest rooms in a typical Bordeaux house, or a family-friendly beachside campsite.
