Aquarium de Biarritz showcases more than 500 forms of sea life, many from the nearby Bay of Biscay. Since the 1930s, visitors have been coming here to learn about underwater ecology, exploring 50 aquariums that also feature species from the Caribbean and the Pacific and Indian oceans. Be sure to check out the shark tank--the largest of its kind in Europe--offering striking views of these predators alongside rays and barracudas. Ask about times for the seal feedings, where you can see the animals in action. • We were a Saturday morning and very well. There were few people and we could see everything perfectly. All good care. Perhaps the price a little high for what it is. In general we liked the visit.

  • We used to visit the Musee de la mer very often with our children. But now we are very disappointed. Yesterday, while on a hike in Biarritz, our 3 year old son surprised us in front of the Musee de la mer with his urgent need to go the restroom. When we asked to use the toilette there, the very unpleasant woman at the front desk refused that. In consequence we had to run with a crying child on our arms through Biarritz to the next public restroom. We know that the Musee de la mer is not a public toilette and we respect that. But refusing to let a small child use it is below everything we ever experienced. Nevertheless, despite this bad and unfriendly employee, the Musee de la Mer is a superb place for submarine life.
  • Amazing place and lots to see. Me and my wife do not have an interest in see creatures but that have changed since visiting. Only 14.50 for an pas for adult and I booked my o e online while in France but could not open the PDF with the ticked. Lady at the reception had no problem letting us in after quick look at the confirming email. Must see!
  • Not a big fan of aquariums in general. They don't have any program for sea food sustainability or if they even heard of it. The beat aquarium is the one in Vancouver because they care about the ocean. This place is another tourists trap. Pass unless you are bored out of your mind.
  • A mixture of aquarium and museum which was interesting...a great selection of fish, sharks and crustaceans on display
  • Great experience. Very much worth seeing. Aquarium part with small tanks with marine fish and other creatures is fantastic, there's another massive tank with plenty of different sharks and stingrays with 3 levels allowing you to see it from different angles. There's also an underwater tunnel with plexiglass walls, astonishing. Last two tanks have turtles and seals. Very interesting is also the museum part, with ship and net models, different tools and equipment used by fishermen in last two centuries. Tip: go to cite d'ocean, a science museum. You can park free there, buy a ticket for the museum De la mer, and use a free shuttle bus to the centre of Biarritz which leaves from across the road.
