Cathedrale Sainte-Marie de Bayonne, Bayonne

(500+ reviews on the web)
Church Landmark
Massive, Gothic, and incredibly detailed, it comes as no surprise that Cathedrale Sainte-Marie de Bayonne took over four centuries to build. The Roman Catholic church serves as the seat of the bishop of the township and neighboring towns. Though originally of Romanesque design, two fires led to its total reconstruction in the 13th century. The current church wasn't completed until the 17th century, while its two landmark twin spires are 19th-century additions. Step inside to view the equally impressive interior, filled with art and stained glass windows. • beautiful but showing its age. Lovely stained glass and a beautiful cloister
  • The church definitely shows its age, but the cloister is intact and provides a peaceful insight into the era when it was built. The church is gothic and has some fine examples of stained glass, apparently with color formulas that cannot be replicated in the modern age. The cloister has a classical arcade and niches containg memorials. Neat "must see" when in Grand Bayonne.
  • Pretty large cathedral, really cool art
  • Beautiful cathedral with his cloiters.
  • Imposing Gothic Cathedral with a precious windows. Admission is free, strange because all are beginning to collect.
