At Auberge Ganne - Musée Départemental de l'école de Barbizon, you can experience the Barbizon school of painters, which was part of an art movement towards Realism in art. The Barbizon school was active roughly from 1830 through 1870. While you enjoy the art, take note of its features. Some of the most prominent of which are its tonal qualities, color, loose brushwork, and softness of form.

  • Very nice Museum that takes back us into the atmosphere.. .the reconstruction of the rooms is at the top and intrigues. You feel transported with the painters of the time including glancing the wall drawings discovered during the renovation of the school. The video at the end of visit is to see...

  • A very beautiful Museum, with overall a very good discovery. Recommend for children, teenagers, and of course adults interested in painting. The Barbizon school is no longer a discovery, but a reality

  • Poetic experience and redolent of the old Barbizon of Stevenson, Millet and Corot.
  • Museum in the heart of an authentic village. Adventure and visit very interesting and above all very rewarding! Entry waivers (free, so) are proposed to a lot of people (according to their job, age, etc.). Very affordable, what better way to discover the art of the years 18XX?

  • A priori, this museum does not mine but there are plenty of interesting to glean information. I recommend to start with good quality video which tells the story of the painters in breaking with the Academy.
