Fondation Dina Vierny, Banyuls-sur-mer

(3.6/5 based on 80+ reviews on the web)
Fondation Dina Vierny serves as a museum dedicated to the paintings and sculptures of artist Aristide Maillol. Discover the sensitive works of this Banyuls sur Mer native, who was often overshadowed by his giant contemporary, August Rodin. The artist would retreat here, among the olive trees and vineyards, to meditate and work. Browse the collection of his works in the intimate museum, then take a walk through the peaceful sculpture garden. The museum also features temporary exhibits. Note that there are no refreshments available on site. Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to Fondation Dina Vierny by using our Banyuls-sur-mer family vacation planner.

  • Slightly off the Catalan coast, the Museum is deserved but does not disappoint. The House which has failed to disappear is still there and offers to the contemplation of the public magnificent works of Maillol. The gardens are relaxing and you can imagine the artist and his muses...

  • Nestled in the heart of the Albères, on the edge of a small stream that sings, the Museum is a beautiful Catalan black shale stone house, surrounded by vineyards, in nature. Five rooms are the works of the sculptor: several life-size statues, of many bronze statuettes, drawings of large striking beauty and some very colorful paintings. A moment of pure happiness. Icing on the cake, a video shot in 1943 or we see Maillol sculpt, draw, and answer in an interview. Very moving.

  • Currently, it is a complement to the exhibition of the Museum of Céret "Maillol, Pons, brother", because we can see many small sculptures, drawings, charcoals... in the farm where he lived for the summer. An excellent period film, black and white, recounts moments of his life. Maillol had neither water nor electricity and lived his fishing or what brought him the shepherds. A temporary exhibition until the 30/10 (very large drawings) explains the price of entry € 7 instead of 5 usually.
