La Vallee Troglodytique des Goupillieres, Azay-le-Rideau

(3.9/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
Discover medieval caves and their historical uses at La Vallee Troglodytique des Goupillieres. These caves feature three farms dug into the stone with wells, bakers' ovens, cattle sheds, a grain silo, and an underground refuge. Let your children's imaginations run free with reproductions of a cabin, fortress, and a witch’s house. Then go inside the enclosed garden filled with plants to make a butterfly's paradise. Dine at The Troglodyte Gourmand serving tartines, pancakes, drinks, and homemade ice cream. Guided tours are only in French, but printed booklets in English describe the caves that were dug out by peasant farmers and builders during the Middle Ages. • A very particular to the country of Balzac site. The curiosity of the Troglodyte peasant life in the Valley of the Goupilleres between knowing and D'artannes on Indre. A visit not to be missed.

  • This troglodyte farm shows visitors what was farming in Touraine centuries ago, when farmers lived appointed caves. The fun tour will appeal to the large or small: panels explanatory, animals, games, puzzles... This is what a nature friendly afternoon! To be avoided in case of wet weather outdoor activity. Parking for vehicles at 300 meters from the entrance, parking space for people with disabilities at 50 meters. The site is accessible to the hearing impaired.

  • One of the best troglodyte places to visit with kids. Run by a family who pours its love into the place. And do try the foués.
