Pont d'Avignon, Avignon
(3.2/5 based on 2,200+ reviews on the web)
Pont d'Avignon was built in the late 12th century, and was originally 900 m (2,950 ft) long, with arches larger than any other Roman bridge of that era. Although the bridge has been rebuilt many times, it has gradually lost arches since the first time it was damaged in a siege, in 1226. Today, only four of the original 22 arches remain. Our Avignon family vacation planner makes visiting Pont d'Avignon and other Avignon attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Place of Avignon. A short visit. Take the aidioguides that are free, at least for a little bit more about this monument.

  • When visiting Avignon by car it is better to take the free parking "Ile Pai" after which a free navette bus you every 5 to 10 minutes to Porte de l'Oulle brings to the edge of the walled city close to the famous bridge and the Palais des Papes. Here one can buy combined ticket with Popes Palace. This will give you advantage in the Palace not to have to sit down later and is slightly cheaper. For bridge is audio guide in NL in price included. Bridge can also be seen on the streets, but visit (both by audio guide or movies and explanation) more info on historical and intention of the bridge originally, the legend, the experiences and finally the end result.

  • Expensive for not much thing and terribly connected by the "friendly" staff. Except say I went there, no interest.

  • Cute bridge that can be seen in 30 minutes. If you have limited time in Avignon, skip it. But we bought the ticket at the Pope's Palace that included entrance. Nice leisurely walk through the park that affords great views. The bridge provides free audio guides in numerous languages.
  • Best to see it from the other side of the river or on the next bridge, so you can capture the reflection of Pont d'Avignon and the mountains behind. Looks like a pretty painting. IG 📷: thearchitectdraws
  • It was fun. Great pictures. Read up about it and its history so you can appreciate it more.
  • They charge you to walk on the bridge. Not sure if it's really worth it. There are better views for free nearby.
  • Very nice historic place. Take the guided tour, accept that you are a tourist and just enjoy the ride.
