  • The Cathedral is worth a visit, as well his (including the eardrum) outside than inside: she mixes many Romanesque elements to other Goths, and the combination of the two is obviously successful.

  • This several times revised Romanesque cathedral is worth a visit, not for the eardrum, his most notable element assigned to Gislebertus. It is the last large monumental tympanum of the Romanesque period whose characteristic is to reduce the representation of hell, the damned representing half but hell a small part of the central register. Should probably not be despair the faithful! Note the imposing stature of Christ in mandorla which messages is: "Alone, I have only one thing, I Crown merit". Our visit was pretty quick but 1 hour may suffice to enjoy this gem.

  • We climb on foot from the city centre through the old streets of Autun, it already is a pleasure, then it leads to a nice shady spot and the Cathedral St Lazare. It is worth to go around for the roofs of Burgundy glazed tiles. Enter by the stairs of the tympanum of the last judgment, do not miss the grimacing Devils, likely signing of the sculptor (rare!) and inside, the capitals. A set of exceptional Romanesque sculptures presenting various episodes from the bible. Personally, I really like Noah's Ark, small house boat in straw braided with the bird that flies, the Magi and the star, Joseph leading Mary on a donkey. Scenes and very human characters. In addition concerts are held during the year. I remember among others a beautiful Requiem of Mozart.

  • A highlight of this ancient Roman city. Remarkable carved tympanum. Very nice paved over the square.

  • Romanesque and Gothic Cathedral. The eardrum is a wonderfully written story. A highlight.
