Abbey of Montmajour, Arles

(4.2/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Take in the enormity of Abbey of Montmajour, a pre-Roman edifice from the tenth century, an abbey church, and a 12th-century Roman cloister built by Benedictine monks. In the 18th century, the monks added the monumental St.-Maur monastery to the west. Climb to the top of the tower of this elaborate structure for a view of the marshland and Arles. Monks and tourists often stroll through the vast field of lavender at the base of the abbey. • Essential to visit if you are in the area. Very well preserved. If possible visit with a guide.

  • very beautiful Romanesque Abbey, testimony of the art of the middle age, and more a clear (especially in the case of mistral) view of the alpilles, the Montagnette Arles and surroundings.

  • a special egregore emerges from this beautiful together, rather than high energy, that turn you your head in cotton. Ideal for a meditation in silence

  • Grand building. On top of the amazing views of the rural Provence.
  • Beautiful site. I was charmed by the view and the mistral wind that swirled around me.

  • The place is very interesting and beautiful, great views of the surrounding area but a current contemporary art show that is not likely to reconcile the average viewer with art! Works hard to defend that have the merit to enjoy as much places!

  • A nice place that merit that attention even if the competition is fierce in the vicinity. Signage has again seriously. On the other hand, I'm not against host contemporary art in these places, but please choose better your "artists".

  • Wonderful site! We take full view. The only downside, the monstrous exhibits which do not have their place in this place full of history and lack of food or beverage dispenser point.
