Fort Carre, Antibes
(3.8/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
Fort Carre is also known as Fort Carré d'Antibes. It was named the squared foot in the 16th-century when Henri de Mandon (Henry III) added four arrowhead shaped bastions to a tower called la tour Saint-Florent. In the 17th century, the Marquis de Vauban fortified the fort by adding traverses and outer walls, enlarging the embrasures and exchanging the stone parapets for brick parapets. Fort Carre is also well known for housing (imprisoning) Napoleon Bonaparte for 10 days and the villain's fortress in the James Bond film, Never Say Never Again. • Dominant and protecting access to Port Vauban, the imposing Fort Carré views to 360 ° on the surrounding area. Crete history not is told by multilingual Guides who know the attention. Count 1 hour tour. It is a "must" in Antibes.

  • It's worth to go there and visit the place. The entrance is not expensive and a once inside we have wonderful views. Only regret, we follow the guide from the beginning to the end without being able to stay there alone for a while to enjoy wonderful panoramas.

  • Dominating the city of Antibes on 360 °, this castle is nice, but mostly gives a magnificent view of ANTIBES stroll and visit will not take that shortly.

  • I took a rambling walk around the entire fort and along the sea. It was spectacular. After a bit of a hike I decided to go to the fort and took the tour which was only a few euros. Our tour guide spoke excellent English, despite her stating otherwise. There were only 2 other people on the tour and the guide explained everything very well. Shared lots of history and stories about the fort and the area. After enjoying the tour I hit the beach for a swim and then headed back to Nice via train. An awesome low key day trip, highly recommend!
  • Amazing place. You can see everything from here.
  • If you have time to kill in Antibes, the Fort is worth a visit. Guided Tour only, the guide speaks only French.
  • Great panoramic view of the port and the city of Antibes, includes a protected green area. Nice promenade along the beach.
  • Well worth a visit, very impressive fort
