Palais de l'Ile, Annecy

4.1
Palais de l'Ile is a recognizable feature of the Thiou canal that splits the water with its sharp corner and forces it apart. When you see the stalwart, gray stone it will come as no surprise that this building has been standing since 1132. It began as the residence of the Lord of Annecy, then an administrative headquarters, courthouse, a mint, and a jail until 1865 and again World War II. Nowadays, you don’t need to be arrested to visit the interior of the castle, just buy a ticket to the history museum located inside and wander through the halls and rooms that once housed both nobility and criminals. Make Palais de l'Ile part of your personalized Annecy itinerary using our Annecy tourist route planner.

I'm really disappointed with the visit, I expected to find a guided tour explaining the history of this building and not exhibits on subjects that didn't interest me. I find that it is not suitable for children, the explanations signs are not enough fun and not enough focused on the history of Annecy or the Palace of the island

Very nice attraction, very cheap entry and full of information about the building and it's role over the years. As we entered we were greeted by a English speaking guide who explained lots of the history of the building, very knowledgeable + helpful.

Picture postcard perfect. The iconic view of Annecy. Undergoing some renovation July 2017 but open again for tours now. Has had a varied history both as jail and local Mint and must see as part of your exploration of the town.

It is great place, different types of restaurants located at the site of the palace, a lot of tourist visited in daily basis, there are so many shows attractions done for tours.

This is a super beautiful place but unfortunately the main picture spot that is shown is currently under construction. The best part of the area is walking around and getting lost in the different alleys and cafes. There were some amazing shops that you can get lost in.
