Palais de l'Ile, Annecy

(4.1/5 based on 400+ reviews on the web)
Palais de l'Ile is a recognizable feature of the Thiou canal that splits the water with its sharp corner and forces it apart. When you see the stalwart, gray stone it will come as no surprise that this building has been standing since 1132. It began as the residence of the Lord of Annecy, then an administrative headquarters, courthouse, a mint, and a jail until 1865 and again World War II. Nowadays, you don’t need to be arrested to visit the interior of the castle, just buy a ticket to the history museum located inside and wander through the halls and rooms that once housed both nobility and criminals. Make Palais de l'Ile part of your personalized Annecy itinerary using our Annecy tourist route planner.

  • Unfortunately, like it is under construction so we only see the front. It's really impressive. Surrounded by water, beautiful.

  • Palais de l'Ile in December 2016 unfortunately was closed to visitors as it was under restoration. So I could admire it from the outside. It is very impressive that the Palais de l'Ile was built on a small island in the Centre of Annecy. You can find this property on all the postcards and guide to Annecy for its characteristic and peculiar shape.
