Musee Chateau, Annecy

3.1
#1 of 7 in Historic Sites in Annecy
Musee Chateau has watched over the town below since the 12th century. However, the only part of the castle still standing from this time is the Queen’s Tower with its 4 m (13 ft) thick walls; the rest of the castle was completed in the 16th century. The structure suffered from multiple fires, but remained strong enough to serve as a military barracks until 1947. It's now a museum housing Alpine popular art, such as furniture, sculptures, photography, and modeled chalets. Stand on the castle terrace and look out over the narrow streets of the old town, or visit the lookout tower for a wider view of the area. • Visited in April, all nice but not great with superb views and a small collection of everyday objects. However I question the direction of hold open only two hours in the morning and throw them all out in a bad way at 12.30, after paying a full price, despite a wing closed, in the middle of your visit. If I have to go back this afternoon with the same ticket? Excuse me, I have other programs, such as a plane. These guys work for sport.

  • On the first Sunday of every month at the Museum entrance is free and you can see all the exhibitions. Prepare to spend more than 1 hour if you want to see everything. Very well maintained and abroad with beautiful views of the old town and Lake.

  • J enjoyed the visit to the Castle but I have regretted the weak link between the exhibitions and the history of the Castle

  • Beautiful city, worth the visit. Every Sunday there is a food market. You can find good quality of local farmers products.
  • I was expecting some history from Annecy, France, or even the castle itself. But inside the castle you will find exhibitions from a whole different matter. DO NOT expect seeing velvet curtains or some middle age torturing room. I was surprised by seeing some Chinese animation history stuff (contemporary) and a tiny aquarium. Most of doors are closed, you are allowed just in some rooms of the castle. The visit is worth it just because the beautiful castle shell.
  • Slightly disappointed with this. The chateau is basically an empty shell, used for art exhibitions, sea life exhibits, etc. I was hoping their would be more period interiors.
  • Interesting displays and a beautiful castle with some great views of the town and surroundings. And reasonably priced. Definitely a good visit if you're heading off to Annecy!
  • Beautiful from outside but nothing to do with a castle when you get inside! The place is transformed into an exhibition centre for modern art. Personally, I would prefer more Medieval exhibits.
