Musee Chateau, Annecy

3.1
#1 of 19 in Historic Sites in Haute-Savoie
Historic Site Specialty Museum
Musee Chateau has watched over the town below since the 12th century. However, the only part of the castle still standing from this time is the Queen’s Tower with its 4 m (13 ft) thick walls; the rest of the castle was completed in the 16th century. The structure suffered from multiple fires, but remained strong enough to serve as a military barracks until 1947. It's now a museum housing Alpine popular art, such as furniture, sculptures, photography, and modeled chalets. Stand on the castle terrace and look out over the narrow streets of the old town, or visit the lookout tower for a wider view of the area. • Arriving in Annecy you notice already in the distance, the visit but does not fully meet, would alternate with various exhibitions to attract but I remain of the opinion that uninspiring.

  • Beautiful castle with a very nice town in Annecy. The visit to the Museum is simple and does not have sufficient historical evidence. See however point of view.

  • This is one of the symbols of Annecy. Actually this is the one that you see in most of the Annecy pictures.  more »

  • I was expecting some history from Annecy, France, or even the castle itself. But inside the castle you will find exhibitions from a whole different matter. DO NOT expect seeing velvet curtains or some middle age torturing room. I was surprised by seeing some Chinese animation history stuff (contemporary) and a tiny aquarium. Most of doors are closed, you are allowed just in some rooms of the castle. The visit is worth it just because the beautiful castle shell.
  • Interesting displays and a beautiful castle with some great views of the town and surroundings. And reasonably priced. Definitely a good visit if you're heading off to Annecy!
  • Beautiful from outside but nothing to do with a castle when you get inside! The place is transformed into an exhibition centre for modern art. Personally, I would prefer more Medieval exhibits.
  • Rising above the old town. Turreted castle. It was once home to the Counts of Geneva. The oldest part is the 12th century Tour de la Reine (Quen's Tower).
  • Lots to look at, plenty of nooks to explore with spectacular views (and a worthy pano shot to be had at the loos). Also randomly a small aquarium. It may not be the grandest but it was a varied exploratory way to kill an hourish.
