2.8/5 based on 380+ reviews on the web
Musee Chateau has watched over the town below since the 12th century. However, the only part of the castle still standing from this time is the Queen’s Tower with its 4 m (13 ft) thick walls; the rest of the castle was completed in the 16th century. The structure suffered from multiple fires, but remained strong enough to serve as a military barracks until 1947. It's now a museum housing Alpine popular art, such as furniture, sculptures, photography, and modeled chalets. Stand on the castle terrace and look out over the narrow streets of the old town, or visit the lookout tower for a wider view of the area. • We visited the Castle, but we didn't expect to see large empty rooms! very little period furniture, exhibitions on the Lake but that no us not too interested!

  • Visiting the Castle went us under the nose... Reason: We have a small 5 kg perfectly educated Bichon... and here the rules are rigid, not smart, unfair etc... it's FORBIDDEN even carried in arms! I still hate these blind and not selective bans under the pretext of the damage caused by others. I have by chance met places where rather than to prohibit blindly held so that it can be done.

  • Nice view from the castle on the city and the lake. The castle itself is not that interesting, and the pieces of art inside are very provincial
  • This is a crazy museum visit more than a castle visit. You do see plenty of the castle in the process, but it's an odd heavily-modified castle (13-1800's) and hence is weird and inconsistent, rather than a classic medieval or fairytale castle. The museum's odd and rambling - castle and local history, very old documents and wax seals and locks, old furniture and tools and weapons, old art of the local area, an exhibition of castle architecture drawings, some sculpture, and then... a contemporary art gallery over several levels, which at the time of our visit had an exhibition of animators' drawings (we narrowly missed the Annecy animation festival) and various modern sculpture/installation pieces, in the incongruous castle tower setting. Finally, there is a separate (but included-in-ticket) museum building of local ecosystems (complete with aquarium), fishing/hunting, info on the lake and agricultural history. It's all worth a visit if you're in Annecy and have time - allow 3hrs to see it all - but nearby Montrottier is more of a typical castle.
  • Somewhat hidden from the crowded part of the village lays this beautiful chateau on top of a little hill.
  • i thought it is all about the castle, but it turned out ,as it is called, it is a museum in the castle. it display some artworks and do a campaign as well, . on top of that, there is an aquarium in the castle. last but at least, it has a great view of anncey
  • Beautiful place but doesn't worth to get inside
  • Deplorable need to pay to return only to the Court and have an overview of the city. Annecy it is the law of money. A family that can't afford the entrance to his family may not even enter the Court for several years already! superb. Thank you
