Inspirock Rating:
4.4/5 based on 40+ reviews on the web
A dream castle with a fairytale balcony to survey your parishes below, at Chateau of Plessis-Mace you become royalty. You must have a guide to visit the interior of the chateau, but this is an asset because your guide will lead you through daily life in the chateau and the history of its many occupants. A traditional medieval garden, and chapel housing one of the oldest oak platforms, complete the picture of Chateau of Plessis-Mace's notable attractions. However, you shouldn’t overlook the grandeur of the chateau’s exterior, so well-preserved that you can almost see the lords of Plessis walking out the the large, wooden doors for a walk through their beloved gardens.

The castle management is entrusted to the EPCC Anjou Theatre, who performs an entire season of modern and classic theatricals on its grounds. Make Chateau of Plessis-Mace part of your personalized Angers itinerary using our Angers trip itinerary builder.

  • I visited this castle as part of the heritage day. Regular tours had been removed and replaced with 6 presentations flash 10 minutes each on 6 specific topics related to the Castle and his time, for example the art of defence, food at the time, a balcony of the Castle architecture... These flash presentations were captivating and it is a pity that they no longer exist when tours resume. Regarding the Castle, this one present at the same time of the aspects of the middle ages with its fortifications and the premises of the renaissance with his finely chiseled on stone and wood sculptures. It has many rooms, all furnished. It includes a remarkable Chapel fully dressed in panels of wood carved in a Gothic style. The exteriors of stones are decorated with harmony and balance. In particular the entourages of the doors and windows and a wonderful balcony to an unusual length. The beauty of this castle, not necessarily impressive volume is multiplied by the fact that it is made of 4 wings connected with in the Middle a large green space which gives the impression of intimacy, away from the outside world at all.

  • I highly recommend to parents of children between 3 and 6 years old to participate in this activity, kids are amazed throughout the visit fun and interesting at the same time. Almost 2 hours that appeared to them a few minutes and the parents won't be bored either. Very good idea and Kudos to the Knight and the Princess for their delivery
