Chateau du Plessis-Bourre, Angers
(4.3/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web)
Chateau du Plessis-Bourre was a single family home until 2009. This formibable, limestone structure housed the owners of the property for 31 years, the longest an owner’s family lived in the castle since 1473. The family has kept the rooms immaculately furnished, and on your guided tour you’ll notice that the furnishings from the 15th through the 18th centuries have been preserved with tenderness by the descendents. Most of the tales of the castle’s builders include legends of alchemy, dungeons, and sordid  history, but none fail to entertain.

The chateau’s location atop the water makes for an unmissable photo op, so click away. If you’re on the water long enough you may even see a pair of black swan floating towards their nest on the bank. Put Chateau du Plessis-Bourre into our Angers vacation builder to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Angers.

  • The setting is beautiful and the Castle completely surrounded by water seems not have suffered the attacks of the time. The tour is very interesting, we learn also that the castle is often taken to setting for period films shooting and seen the story. I often brought my friends see this beautiful home and they are all left pleased with their visit. Definitely worth a visit, as they say!

  • The Castle, beautiful is in good enough condition, and something rare, surrounded by beautiful moats full of water! The tour was very interesting, even if the guide seemed a little recite his text at the beginning, the speech became more natural then. Little less for parking at the entrance, quite small, it should not be simple parking during large events!

  • Great tour, little castle with an interesting story, a bucolic place a little lost North of Anjou. Takes less than half a day. To do if your schedule allows.
