Chateau du Plessis-Bourre, Angers

4.3
#5 of 9 in Sightseeing in Angers
Castle Historic Site
Chateau du Plessis-Bourre was a single family home until 2009. This formibable, limestone structure housed the owners of the property for 31 years, the longest an owner’s family lived in the castle since 1473. The family has kept the rooms immaculately furnished, and on your guided tour you’ll notice that the furnishings from the 15th through the 18th centuries have been preserved with tenderness by the descendents. Most of the tales of the castle’s builders include legends of alchemy, dungeons, and sordid  history, but none fail to entertain.

The chateau’s location atop the water makes for an unmissable photo op, so click away. If you’re on the water long enough you may even see a pair of black swan floating towards their nest on the bank. • I particularly liked this château as it has remained largely as it was built. The furniture inside is of various periods and is also interesting although not authentic for the château. It cost €9 and ...  more »
  • An authentic Castle, in a beautiful environment, to discover with a guide preferably as many castles.

  • We were able to visit with the guide due to illness. It's a shame because after having read all the cards we learned of mobility but history month. It's a beautiful place with history that us will be remembered.

  • Little castle, nice to see but not that well mantained. Quite expensive for what il offers.
  • Very little to see or do,but that was severely affected by the fact that they had a film crew crawling all over the place. Should have been free entry in those circumstances.
  • A beautiful castle or the Castle surrounded by a moat. Before him, a large park with old trees. Inside I was, because I arrived late and the lock is open until 6 pm. Park was freely accessible and worth visiting. Parked directly on the road before the entrance to the Park, with no problems.

  • A beautiful, very well maintained, the framework of this castle castle is impeccable. Regular animations giving adults and children alike. The order of Saint Michael, must see. When a hunting party or a show of venery? our kids would love! can't wait to go back.

  • Magnificent Castle in the XV very well preserved. Many activities throughout the year. And in September a wonderful tournament of chivalry re-enactment (throws solid and real weapons) if the place becomes magical.
