Visit Turku Cathedral, the national shrine considered by many to be Finland's most important historical monument. This cathedral is the mother of the Lutheran Church of Finland dedicated to the Virgin Mary and St. Henry, Finland's first bishop. Visit the medieval structure, established in 1300, and see the immense work of renovations after the 1827 Great Fire of Turku. Tour the cathedral museum to learn about Finnish history since the 14th century. Listen to the church bells at noon as you walk along the Aura River. • Very simple yet beautiful church.I like when they have the candles you can light for prayers or past loved ones. It was probably the nicest thing I liked about Turku.

  • Beautiful church in the centre of old town Turku. Amazing frescos, inspiring statuettes, and elevating images surround the walls of this godly haven. A relaxing setting to centre the mind, awaken the heart, or momentarily gather your breath before taking in the rest of this beautiful city. A must see when visiting this Southwestern town.
  • Probably one of the oldest buildings in the city, which has a long history, and quite the connection with Sweden and the Swedish royals.
  • Beautiful cathedral. Located in the centre. Recommended to see when you are in Turku.
  • This cathedral got a huge history behind it. Will share with you what I remember on here 😁 1. It’s the first cathedral built in Finland (Turku is the oldest city in Finland) 2. It was originally built of wood and was dedicated as the main seat of the Catholic bishop of Turku. 3. It later became the mother church of the Lutheran church of Finland and also the seat of the Lutheran archbishop of Finland. I recommend you visit for more info
  • The church is very impressive and beautiful. Definitely worth visiting 🙂
