Where to stay in Turku

As Finland's historical capital and one of the centers of Finnish culture, Turku draws plenty of tourists and boasts a wide array of accommodations. Most of Turku's larger hotels and guesthouses sit within the historical old town, roughly between the harbor, the main train station, and the northern bank of the Aura River. Staying within this central district gives you easy access to most of Turku's main sights, putting you within walking distance of the famous cathedral and close to the fortress. Surrounding suburbs and more rural peninsular areas offer cheaper accommodation, but put you a little farther from the action. Budget travelers may want to book a hostel, which often put you in shared rooms but offer a decent location.

  • We visited with VOYAGES JULES VERNE with another couple, and met our local guide. After a whistle-stop tour of the main features, we were left to find our own way around. Specialist glassware from a w...  more »

  • Nice place with reasonable ticket prices. It is at least 10 times more spacious than I expected. I recommend a half-day visit. And one can take really nice pictures in there.
  • Castle was easily accessible and the guide during our tour was excellent at giving us interesting bits of information throughout. Tour was performed in Finnish and English. I would visit it again if I get the chance to visit Turku again!
  • Very nice place to spend a few hours, lots of winding stairs though. The restaurant had the most fabulous smokey ham soup served up with a dark honey beer. Very nice meal after touring the castle. Castle and restautant staff were very nice and friendly. And it was open on Easter.
  • Very nicely organised place and there were guides in most room explaining the sections without buying the guided tour. Only problem caused was this place was much larger than expected. Had to skip last fourth of the castle because it was closing after exploring the place for 5 hours.
  • Worth every euro you paid. For student, you get half price (€5). We spent 2.5 hours but it wasn't enough. We didn't get to see everything. There is a dressing room where you can dress up as a knight, commoner and try on historical clothes. To get most out of the castle, it's good to read the information card provided in a room. Would love to visit again.
