Lukion musa 1 kurssin kanssa käytiin tutustumassa museoon. Sanoisin, että ei olisi kauheasti kiinnostanut lähteä museoon, mutta oli ihan mielenkiintoista kuulla eri soitinten historiaa. Museosta ei ol... read more »High school course took place with the visit to the Museum of musa 1. I would say that there would be a lot nicer to go to the Museum, but it was pretty interesting to hear about the history of the various players. Museo oli todella mielenkiintoinen. Soittimia oli paljon ja videoita jonkinverran. Sibelius oli keskeisenä aiheena. The Museum was really interesting. Players had a lot of videos and had some. Sibelius was a key topic.show original

I thought it was going to be really boring but it turned out to be much better. The story of Sibelius is told in a rather engaging way and I enjoyed listening to samples of his various compositions. You probably have to be into music a bit to enjoy this museum though.
The main hall has some interesting instruments like a combination cello-piano and a harpsichord you can play yourself, plus an interactive display of how harpsichord, clavier and piano mechanisms work. But the best part is the smaller hall with the life of Sibelius, which gave a really good sense of the man's wit and talent. Most importantly, you can listen to a selection of recordings if (like me) you're only familiar with Finlandia. Excellent English translations throughout and a chance to buy a selection of Sibelius on vinyl for just €1. Free concerts Wednesday night, although unfortunately we didn't have time to go.
Excellent collection of instruments (at least to me, as an amateur). Nice, concise descriptions and background information next to each case. The staff was very friendly, they offered to play Sibelius' music in the background during our visit. Worth paying a visit wild in Turku.
