Specialty Museum Museum
Luostarinmäki Handicrafts Museum features craftworks from pre-industrial times in an 18th-century open-air museum. When the Great Fire of 1827 destroyed 75 percent of the town, this area remained unharmed. Today you can wander through wooden homes decorated by colorful doors, windows, and chimneys. Note the grass on the roofs of some, while others feature barns and wooden stairs that lead to small attics. Inside the houses, you'll see old tools, furniture, and textiles. Throughout the site, artisans produce merchandise that you can purchase. Make Luostarinmäki Handicrafts Museum part of your personalized Turku itinerary using our Turku itinerary maker.

  • Open air museum in an old Turku neighbourhood, with traditional wooden houses and people showing the art of handicraft. Really worth seeing. The cafe near the main entrance is also great.
  • It is a must-see place in Turku. We visited this museum in August 2016. It felt like we traveled back in time. We couldn't get enough of it.
  • It is wonderful place. It is easy to spend at least few hours there and not realise time runs so fast. Mostly wooden, old and cosy houses with real manufacturers working inside is great experience. It is also worth to visit small Caffè located few steps from the main gate.
  • If you got some extra time, this is a fun little time travel to a time no more. Make sure to come while the actors are active.
  • Open-air museums that capture real, ordinary lives of working people are the best kind of museum.
