Luostarinmäki Handicrafts Museum, Turku
(4.3/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
Luostarinmäki Handicrafts Museum features craftworks from pre-industrial times in an 18th-century open-air museum. When the Great Fire of 1827 destroyed 75 percent of the town, this area remained unharmed. Today you can wander through wooden homes decorated by colorful doors, windows, and chimneys. Note the grass on the roofs of some, while others feature barns and wooden stairs that lead to small attics. Inside the houses, you'll see old tools, furniture, and textiles. Throughout the site, artisans produce merchandise that you can purchase. Make Luostarinmäki Handicrafts Museum part of your personalized Turku itinerary using our Turku itinerary maker.

  • This set of wooden cabins are intended to recreate what life was like in the past. Each cabin recreates a trade or type of House, allowing you to take a fairly accurate idea of yesteryear was the Finnish way of life. The recreations are very neat until the minor detail. An of them houses indeed is real, since was inhabited until them 60 and the old owners to the leave it donated all the furniture and others so is will retain. Pese_a be an interesting attraction and popular for tourists from Turku, there were several things that should improve significantly: 1) visit is on your own. With the input they give you a map of the houses, but there is a panel, or anything to explain a little more. The visit consists in going simply opening doors and seeing the interior of the houses. There is some staff handed out by them, though not in all, dressed according to the place, but in general they seem more furniture than potential guides that should explain some of what you're seeing. By not say not say or Hello! For that they could put mannequins... And when questions les sometimes not know you answer nothing. (2) the majority of the houses were closed, at least when we visited him in December. (3) the only attraction is open in summer and a few weeks in December taking advantage of Christmas flip. If you're going to Turku outside those dates, you will not see it. The price is €6 per adult, €4 If you are a student.

  • Turku is a beautiful town with many surprises, one of which is this little village rebuilt, to visit by the end of August, because if not then do you find yourself more artisans who work. Nice ... a little "gardaland" style, though the lodges are original and they do understand how hard life was in a climate like that of Finland. mertia.

  • It is wonderful place. It is easy to spend at least few hours there and not realise time runs so fast. Mostly wooden, old and cosy houses with real manufacturers working inside is great experience. It is also worth to visit small Caffè located few steps from the main gate.
  • If you got some extra time, this is a fun little time travel to a time no more. Make sure to come while the actors are active.
  • Open air museum in an old Turku neighbourhood, with traditional wooden houses and people showing the art of handicraft. Really worth seeing. The cafe near the main entrance is also great.
  • Very exciting venue! You can get a taste of everyday life in Turku during 1800s and it really is an immersive experience!
  • Kind of boring place. Most of "masters" just stand there.
