  • This museum combines museums exhibits in two buildings with three museum ships you can visit. An excellent way to explore Finnish maritime history in its various facets.  more »
  • The friendly ticket agent took over. Keskittyvässä part of the building was of interest to the old boats. In Particular, The Gold Beach. Cruiser models and ship's cabin was handsome. The second exhibition was also very well built. An interesting place to visit also for families with children.

  • This is a really good maritime museum - if you're interested in Finnish and Baltic Sea ships and seamanship. There is a lot of information on the history of ships and shipboard life in this region. There is a display, which I almost missed, because it's kind of small, on the construction of the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Oasis of the Sea, which was built right here in Turku.
  • Good exhibition. Not too much stuff that you can interact with though.
  • Not that amazing but a pleasant walk along the water.
  • Nice mix with history and modern.
  • Tip: the ships outside are only open in the summer

Where to stay in Turku

As Finland's historical capital and one of the centers of Finnish culture, Turku draws plenty of tourists and boasts a wide array of accommodations. Most of Turku's larger hotels and guesthouses sit within the historical old town, roughly between the harbor, the main train station, and the northern bank of the Aura River. Staying within this central district gives you easy access to most of Turku's main sights, putting you within walking distance of the famous cathedral and close to the fortress. Surrounding suburbs and more rural peninsular areas offer cheaper accommodation, but put you a little farther from the action. Budget travelers may want to book a hostel, which often put you in shared rooms but offer a decent location.
