Specialty Museums · Observation Decks · Sacred & Religious Sites
Finland's third largest city, Tampere boasts an array of cultural offerings and a lively music scene. It is relatively young by European standards, founded in 1775, but has played an important role in the country's recent history. Its rich industrial past has led to frequent comparisons with the English metropolis of Manchester. Today  Tampere's textile and metal factories have been largely replaced by information technology and telecommunication centers. The city has also made significant contributions to the country's artistic and educational development, providing Finland with some of its most popular writers and oldest theatre institutions alongside a plethora of museums and galleries. Those with a strong stomach should make sure to try the local specialty of mustamakkara, a blood sausage, when visiting. Find what you're looking for from your Tampere holiday, by planning the whole thing with us using our handy Finland journey planning website.

Where to stay in Tampere

As Scandinavia's largest inland city, Tampere boasts all sorts of options when it comes to accommodations. Most of the city's modern hotels are clustered in the cosmopolitan area surrounding the main train station, within walking distance of many of the city's popular bars, shops, and restaurants. While they may lack character, the hotels themselves are reasonably priced for a large city. For more a more cost-effective option, opt for a smaller hotel or bed and breakfast in one of the quieter suburbs. To more closely experience Finland's natural wonders, check out the campsites just outside of town, which are significantly cheaper but with fewer amenities.
