3.3/5 based on 130+ reviews on the web
Home to the lovable Moomin characters, Tampere Art Museums Moominvalley offers fans of all ages a peek into the Moomins' world. The characters featured in Tove Jansson's books, and some of her original drawings, are on display. In fact, you'll delight in the over 2,000 pieces of Moomin artwork exhibited in the museum. A five-story Moomin house stands on site and is the highlight of the collection. The designer of the house, Tuulikki Pietilä, did not follow any architectural plan but built the house freely based on drawings by her brother Reima Pietilä. The house has toured the world and appeared in Jansson's last Moomin book, "The Unwanted Guest." The museum is located in the basement of the Tampere Art Museum, so consider combining these two attractions. Visit the Moomin shop for souvenirs and gifts decorated with the Moomin images. For travelers who use our online itinerary creator, Tampere holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Tampere Art Museums Moominvalley and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • After registration, you can visit the empty-handed put luggage in the lockers. Description of the exhibition is placed on the guide book for Japan, along with the number visitors. Facilities would be kind is much more meaningful if you know a lot of Moomin story, but without knowing that. I think it is moved to the new facilities want to visit also. What kind of exhibit that is fun. Finally bought postcards in shops. One piece 1 euros. The photos, will decorate.

  • Such a nice museum! If you like the Moomins (or maybe your children do), don't miss the Muumilaakso Museo . They show drawings of Tove Jansson and small models she built of the moomin- world. And they sell the most beautiful moomin-postcards with prints of the drawings in the exhibition.
  • Please note that the Moomin Museum has been moved to Tampereen Taidemuseo. It is still within a walking distance from the old location. The Moomin Shop, however, is still at this address for the time being.
  • Once you enter the museum, the ticket service is to the left and speak in English, Russian, Korean and even Japanese. The exhibition is at the bottom floor of the building - down the stairs to the right as you enter. Make sure you grab a tour guide book on the left side as you go down the stairs, they're past the first doorway and come in a couple of different languages. Generally it was really nice even if short - take your time to examine the exhibits. The atmosphere was nice - there's some nice background music playing as you walk around. Mind you though, no photography is allowed, but if you feel like leaving with a few memories, be sure to go back to the ticket service counter and you'll see plenty of souvenirs - postcards, mugs, napkins, tiny bags, books and especially prints of paintings and a map of the moominland.
