Kolovesi National Park (Finnish: Koloveden kansallispuisto) is a national park in the Etelä-Savo region of Finland. It was established in 1990 and covers 23 km2 (8.9 sq mi). It protects e.g. the habitat of the critically endangered Saimaa Ringed Seal. Typical of the rugged scenery of Kolovesi, formed by the ice age, are craggy cliffs rising from the water. Cave paintings have been discovered in the area. Motor boats are prohibited in the area. Kayaking, canoeing, and rowing and facilitated, and there are also several marked hiking paths in the area.

Nice park, within a big lake. The hiking options are very limited so this park is more for canoes. You can rent them on site at Kirkkoranta, contact SaimaaHoliday Oravi and Kolovesi tel. +358 44 274.... more

The peace of nature - ah!! Opportunity to see endangered ringed seals, beavers etc. at close range. Fantastic scenery by canoeing... Encampment is possible only in specified areas and they can be congested. Also some of the chassis for the tents are out of order (the area is rocky and mostly it's hard to find other places to put the tent). But exellent fire places and well maintained dry toilets.

Good services and route signs and of course the park itself is stunning! Best way to explore the park is of course with cayak, but i would also advice to walk a bit in the beautifull islands and nature paths.

A must see flat water destination for canoe camping. Camping locations are limited and swamped during holiday season, so I recommend establishing a camp early and exploring the views during the evening.
