  • Classroom fortress from all sides by water. The view from the boat and from shore are awesome, the history guide. It is interesting to visit in winter

  • A Lakeshore, good experience. A nice place, with lots to look at and with good information, also in English. But the big plus was the wizard. Even though we were a very large group, she managed to get all around and was inspiring and good to tell the story. At the same time, she spoke a very beautiful and easy-to-understand English. Cheating I myself for a guided tour, and it does not cost extra. In addition we got so to see what happens when a rusisk and a Finnish President to visit the site the next day. It swarmed with hard cord safety folks over everything.

  • After nearly 20 years have passed, it's still the highlight of our trip to Finland. We were there to see a ballet with Finnish friends. Beautiful and magical! Don't miss it!
  • Really nice old castle.
  • Great historical site.
  • Beautiful but expensive to enter (the tower) and only finnish guided tours.
  • Avery interesting place, better to go with a guide whi can tell you a lot of facts about the fortress.

Where to stay in Savonlinna

Explore Savonlinna and the surrounding Lakeland district from one of the luxury hotels situated in the compact city center--most of which is concentrated on the city's two main islands. This way you can easily tour the town on foot and be within easy reach of the famous Olavinlinna castle. To enjoy the wild countryside and surrounding lakes, opt for a lodge or guesthouse outside of town. Though you'll definitely need access to a car in order to get around, these options provide cheaper rooms, a quaint setting, and sometimes feature bed and breakfast-style options for food.
