Founded in 1475 by Knight Erik Axelsson Tott on behalf of the Swedish Crown, it was constructed to protect the Savo region from Russian forces. Explore the stone castle, take in scenic views of the lakes, and visit the castle museum and Orthodox museum to learn more about the history of the structure and region. • I have been here every year for the past 4 years. I am drawn to how majestic the castle looks in sunset. Breath taking.
  • Very beautiful historical castle. We had a nice walk in a wonderful weather.
  • Olavinlinna is a very well maintained fortress which can be visited. The family ticket (non guided tour) is 25€ and it offers the opportunity to go around the castle in the different rooms. In each room there is a nice description of the history of the specific room. You can walk on the defensive pathways on the towers from where the soldiers used to defend the castle and this can be entertaining for the children. Nice way to spend couple of hours in Savonlinna.
  • Nice place, friendly staff
  • Castle is beautiful and worth visiting it. Night visit is amazing and specially all those lights make it more beautiful.
