Rovaniemi Church, Rovaniemi

4.1
Church · Tourist Spot
A landmark of post-World War II architecture, Rovaniemi Church is probably best appreciated from inside. The impressive interior boasts glass works and wooden sculptures, but the most notable feature is the 14 m (46 ft) fresco depicting the fountain of life, which dominates the altar wall. Notice also the 45-key organ with 4,000 pipes. The present brick church with copper roof was built in 1950 in the place of the old wooden one, destroyed in 1944. Walk to the far end of the cemetery and you will find a memorial to Rovaniemi citizens who died in exile during the war. • Had a really nice experience at Rovaniemi cathedral. Walked into it by chance. The lady at the reception was super nice and welcoming. Beautiful painting at the altar. And a nice world war memorial at the church cemetery.
  • A beautiful church and the frescos well worth seeing. When we visited we were lucky enough to hear a pianist playing. The resonance of the sound was magnificent. A very lucky an timely visit.
  • Very nice, the graveyard in the back is also beautiful!
