Ranua Zoo, Ranua

4.4
#1 of 12 in Zoos & Aquariums in Finland
Visit Ranua Zoo to see Finland's only polar bears in captivity near the Arctic Circle. The zoo is small because few species can live comfortably in the harsh environment. About 200 arctic animals call the zoo home, including lynx and wolves, and watching them play in the snow is a unique experience. The attraction is open year-round, even when the sun only appears for a couple of hours each day, and in the winter you can take a night safari through the habitats. Book a Ranua Wildlife Safari tour with a local guide to walk you through the habitats and to give you a chance to witness the animals feeding. Water-resistant winter clothing, lunch, a snowmobile ride, and transport to and from your hotel are all included in the safari package. • Lots of birds and animals. Lots of space. Animals seemed happy. Ice bar near the end of the park exit in winter. €9 or €10 for a rum hot chocolate but very nice. Visited a couple of times, once at nig...  more »

  • Enjoyed my visits but due to the layout you really need to spend around 2 hours there as difficult to only do part. Foot paths can be slippery so be careful . Great to see polar bears and staff very k...  more »

  • All the enclosures were large, clean, and had good enrichment options. The animals were so active and playful. The polar bears were the most active I have ever seen. We went in winter (March) and I was very pleased. Also did the dog sledding right there. The dogs also looked very well cared for and healthy. Great experience.
  • The zoo hosts some rare species of animals, for people like us that comes from Tropical country. It is amazing to see Wolverine, Arctic White Fox, Polar Bears etc. The place is well design and animals are kept almost to its original wilderness as possible. We were there when it was cover in snow, they even had a Ice Bar. An enjoyable visiting.
  • Perfect place for animal lovers. You could see polar bear and other uncommon species of animals and birds. The visit time would take on an average of 2 -3 hours with an area of approximately 2 km to walk. We had opted for Ranua Zoo safari package from our resort Santa Claus Holiday Village. The safari included pick up and return from hotel, zoo entry ticket and guided tour to the zoo. It costs 99€ per adult. There is also public transport option to reach the zoo.
  • Really nice place. Sadly to say duo to the extreme cold most of the animals hide. But totally fun! I recommend.
  • It was a very interesting experience to try Ranua Zoo, the most northern zoo in the world, in the month of March. We liked it and we had a good time here
