Ranua Zoo, Ranua
(4.3/5 based on 280+ reviews on the web)
Visit Ranua Zoo to see Finland's only polar bears in captivity near the Arctic Circle. The zoo is small because few species can live comfortably in the harsh environment. About 200 arctic animals call the zoo home, including lynx and wolves, and watching them play in the snow is a unique experience. The attraction is open year-round, even when the sun only appears for a couple of hours each day, and in the winter you can take a night safari through the habitats. Book a Ranua Wildlife Safari tour with a local guide to walk you through the habitats and to give you a chance to witness the animals feeding. Water-resistant winter clothing, lunch, a snowmobile ride, and transport to and from your hotel are all included in the safari package. • If I had planned the weather better, we would not have chosen that day to go. It was half-snow half-rain and after 1 hour the kids wanted to go back to a warm place. Overall, the presentation of the a...  more »
  • It is a cold and small zoo many animals can not see them. We have been at the beginning of November and we've gone from Rovaniemi which is 80 km. The excursion to side 316 euros for 2 adults and two children but as the Santa Claus see you in one day, something you have to do. The zoo also has its charm all snowy.

  • We stopped there on the way to the village of Santa Claus in Roviniemi. Were in the winter, in the last days of December. Would love to visit the northernmost Zoo in the world. The Park is conveniently timed, and I must say, that collection of animals assembled worthy. There be representatives of all the white species. In addition to hiking and exploring the Arctic fauna we have swept into Northern Sami reindeer-drawn sleigh. The deer was moving slowly, but then leisurely careen we swept in harness sled Husky. It was the strongest impression! It was interesting to observe the construction of dogs, where the leader, where the tail feathers. And under gikan'e kajura with tinnitus shoot multiple laps on a snow-covered forest. Super! Then there was the visit to the igloo. Hot in there, of course, but outside and inside temperature difference is noticeable. Impressed! For the sake of such unfamiliar emotions worth to come here. And preferably in winter to experience Lapland. When -30, a lot of snow and short daylight hours.
