Ranua Zoo, Ranua

(4.3/5 based on 320+ reviews on the web)
Visit Ranua Zoo to see Finland's only polar bears in captivity near the Arctic Circle. The zoo is small because few species can live comfortably in the harsh environment. About 200 arctic animals call the zoo home, including lynx and wolves, and watching them play in the snow is a unique experience. The attraction is open year-round, even when the sun only appears for a couple of hours each day, and in the winter you can take a night safari through the habitats. Book a Ranua Wildlife Safari tour with a local guide to walk you through the habitats and to give you a chance to witness the animals feeding. Water-resistant winter clothing, lunch, a snowmobile ride, and transport to and from your hotel are all included in the safari package. • It is worthwhile to stop at the Ranua zoo. The zoo is organized very nicely, easy to walk, see the arctic unique animals and have a warm hot chocolate inside an igloo (a nice experience on its own)
  • The animals are amazing and well fed and looked after. It takes a good few hours to look around and i would imagine it lovely in the summer but was still good with snow on the ground.
  • Visited in winter, in a region where everything is nature, respect for the environment this zoo is a blackhead. The animals that can be seen in winter are few, some of them would lie comfortably in the forests of the area, some cold sitting in cramped riscaldatee those some details like the bear is all asleep. Probably in the summer is more interesting
