Inspirock Rating:
4.7/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web
One of only six surviving medieval towns in Finland, Porvoo Old Town was first mentioned in texts dating back to the 14th century, but many of the original wooden buildings from this time period burned to the ground. The highlight of the town are the red wooden storage houses on the river, which are listed as a World Heritage Site. The remaining stone buildings, such as Porvoo Cathedral, represent the oldest of the buildings still standing from the original medieval town. Today the remaining wooden buildings in the old town center house art studios and artisan shops where local products are sold. Consider wearing boots with ankle support for walking over the uneven cobblestones. Use our Porvoo tourist route planner to arrange your visit to Porvoo Old Town and other attractions in Porvoo.
