Create an itinerary including Porvoo Old Town
One of only six surviving medieval towns in Finland, Porvoo Old Town was first mentioned in texts dating back to the 14th century, but many of the original wooden buildings from this time period burned to the ground. The highlight of the town are the red wooden storage houses on the river, which are listed as a World Heritage Site. The remaining stone buildings, such as Porvoo Cathedral, represent the oldest of the buildings still standing from the original medieval town. Today the remaining wooden buildings in the old town center house art studios and artisan shops where local products are sold. Consider wearing boots with ankle support for walking over the uneven cobblestones. • We went around the old town and looked at the old houses and the Runeberg's home. We alson visited Porvoon Panimo pub and sat near the river of Porvoo, which goes right through the city.

  • Didn't think there was much to do here besides visit the church and the chocolate shop. It's a neat area but comparatively, it could be skipped.
