Religious Site
With an idea to gather all the townsfolk at once, the Christian community built Kerimaki Church, reputed to be one of the largest wooden objects in the world at one time. Due to its scope and complexity, this project required the participation of every single man aged 15 to 60 at the time of construction in the mid-1800s. Once it was completed in 1847, the structure was so illogically large that authorities investigated the possibility that builders got confused between centimeters and inches, which was disproved. With a capacity to host 5,000 people, this church features remarkably detailed woodwork and lavish galleries, filled with colored lanterns. View its spacious insides and the 37 m (121 ft) tall dome. Concerts and events are often held inside. Make Kerimaki Church a part of your Kerimaki vacation plans using our Kerimaki holiday planner.
