The Säynätsalo Town Hall (Finnish: Säynätsalon kunnantalo) is a multifunction building complex, consisting of two main buildings organised around a centralised courtyard; a U-shaped council chamber and town hall with administrative offices and a community library with and flats. The Town Hall was designed by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto for the municipality of Säynätsalo (merged with the municipality of Jyväskylä in 1993) in Central Finland. Aalto received the commission after a design contest in 1949, and the building was completed in December 1951.

The town hall is considered one of the most important buildings Aalto designed in his career.

  • Alvar Saltos legacy in any architectural detail. Perfectly conserved, is a must see for any architect
  • It is amazing to witness one of the most celebrated building of Aalto.
  • We came twice specially to see with our own eyes!
  • We've been staying nearby and decided to go for a walk to the townhall. Did not expect to be able to visit but we were. Harri provided a guided tour which was very interesting and informative. They also have guest rooms and apartments and will have a cafè in the summer.
  • A great building whose design has stood the test of time. I learned they even have two guest rooms available for overnight stays. This is truly an architect's pilgrimage destination.
