Siida, Inari

(4.4/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
The historic pasture of the Siida feeds herds of Sami reindeer native to the area. The Sami are an ancient community of people who maintain the tradition of nomadic reindeer herding through the pastureland. Their practices are protected by law and so are the lands through which they move the reindeer herds. The attraction serves as a meeting place to learn about the arctic cultures whose way of life depends of the migrating herds. The National Museum of the Finnish Sámi and the Nature Centre of Metsähallitu work together to preserve the natural surroundings and culture at the site. An open-air museum as well as indoor exhibits display the artifacts of everyday life, such as textiles, clothing, and cooking utensils. At the on-site restaurant, sample the local mountain berries and reindeer meat--staples of the Sami diet. A visit to Siida represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Inari itinerary planner to plot your vacation.

  • We were at the museum on the national holiday of the Sami. That was a happy accident! The entrance was free and there were very many Sami present in traditional costume! The most interesting part of the museum was the great Hall on the first floor. The outside of the room tells more about the climate and the flora and fauna in Lapland. The inside of the Hall chronicles the life of the Sami and that was the most interesting. The museum is a good introduction to the Sami!

  • A great place to get an understanding of Saami culture and local history worth visiting and spending a few hours.
  • Very interesting Museum, a room dedicated to the simultaneous history and another room on the customs of the Sami in each season of the year. It has AV room and a cafeteria very well served.

  • Very interesting museum with lots of information about the Sami culture and a large outdoor village of Sami buildings, tents and animal traps. Also information about the weather, plants, insects and animals inhabiting the arctic region of Scandinavia. Lots of beautiful items in the gift shop.
  • Very kindness stuffs & good traditional culture with Lapland.
  • Mostly boards with history and culture of Sami. For an average tourist it might be a little bit too informative. Also the exhibition boards were really well thought (e.g. they labelled pictures with numbers 1,2,3... and then the whole section of descriptions is below - instead of one description immediately next to each photo) Also there weren't too many exhibits inside. Given all these the entrance fee is a bit too high.
  • Stopover if you need to take a break . Quite Interesting museum on the history n the people of Lipland. Entrance fee 10euro per adult
  • This is a good place for people, who are interested in history and culture of Lappland.
