  • Great museum of the history of the region even before it was Finland. They have lots of ancient artifacts and tell a great story of the people of Finland from the Stone Age through to present day. Highly recommend it.
  • Nice museum in a very beautiful building. Follows the history of Finland from the middle ages to the more modern times. Just be careful to take the tour in the right direction (starting from the entrance opposite the front desk). Otherwise, like us, you risk getting confused about the timeline continuity of the different plaques...
  • Great window into Finnish history even if due to Finland's circumstances many Finnish artefacts are held in Swedish museums. Well worth a visit. The special exhibitions change. When I went the exhibition had nothing to do with Finland which was a bit disappointing but the museum is still very good and of a manageable size.
  • Beautiful building housing a modern museum. Guest exhibitions and permanent exhibits are both worthwhile. Highly suggested for tourists and locals alike.
  • Great place to learn about the history of Finland and the Finnish people/culture. Try to make this a first stop on a visit to Finland so you have good context for the rest of your visit. The layout of the museum can be somewhat confusing so make sure you navigate the exhibits in the right order. There are plenty of helpful staff on hand - just ask if in doubt. The prehistory and story of Finland sections are really well done. Allow about 2 hours for a visit.
