Temppeliaukion Church, Helsinki
(4.3/5 based on 4,800+ reviews on the web)
Known for its striking copper dome, Temppeliaukion Church has been carved from rock in the heart of the city. Designed by siblings Tim and Tuomo Suomalainen and finished in 1969, this distinctive Lutheran church is directly excavated into rock. Explore the church's interior, which consists of rock and marble walls, with the shining copper dome supported by concrete beams at the top of the structure. Note the light shining in through the skylight on what is commonly called the Church of Rock. Take time to listen to the acoustics, made possible by the church's exposed walls. With our custom trip planner, Helsinki attractions like Temppeliaukion Church can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • It was nice and pretty, but very overrun with tourists -- more than I was expecting! Appreciated the wonderful architecture, however!
  • Looking from the outside in far cry are very, creating a cosy and comfortable light. Chairs are nice and have Northern Europe!

  • The surprise construction, worth visiting. Has the station tram close, but you can walk too. Both the internal and the visitation local shops close at 5:00 pm, then I suggest you plan before you go.

  • Very special and amazing church built inside a rock. Quiet place to calm down and meditate. Soft music when open for visitors
  • Rock Church. Architectural masterpiece built into rock. Very good acoustics. You should go there even if you are not religious.
  • Visiting it on Sunday. A beautiful church built on rock. But it's too many tour groups there, and the church was not quiet in result. It's a pity.
  • Nice shanti place, but loud when mani tourists come :)
  • A beautiful church, built into the solid bedrock. It's a pretty peaceful place, unless you happen to be visiting at the same time as a group of chinese tourists. In that case it can just feel a bit crowded. If you don't mind about the potential of crowds of tourists, It is a great piece of architecture worth seeing
