St. John's Church (Johanneksenkirkko, Johanneskyrkan) in Helsinki, Finland is a Lutheran church designed by the Swedish architect Adolf Melander in the Gothic Revival style. It is the largest stone church in Finland by seating capacity.Situated in the Ullanlinna district of Helsinki, the church was built between 1888 and 1891, the third Lutheran church in Helsinki, and still the biggest. The twin towers are 74 metres in height, and the church seats 2,600 people and has excellent acoustics, and it is therefore used for big concerts and events as well as services. The twin towers of the church can be seen for miles so it's easy to find. The neo Gothic design is not in keeping with the surrounding area but I found the building very attractive. It's off the beate...  more »

On the way to the Museum of design, big church to stay came. Once inside it was 11 o'clock on Monday, but heard a pipe organ playing. There could be at least a solemn atmosphere. Location is right near the Museum of design. I think better or stop by if you can spare the time.

Very beautiful church. it locates a little far from busy center. Near the design museum. We walked around it, there are a small park behind of it.

Love its awe-inspiring paintings and the suspending lights from the roof. Place of worship and place for concert as well.

Where to stay in Helsinki

Set yourself up with easy access to many of Helsinki's most popular tourist sites by staying in the city's bustling and modern center. You'll find that the area is packed full of shops, restaurants, and bars, plus it's conveniently close to both the city's main train station and energetic waterfront. Though there's certainly a range of options when it comes to big-name hotel chains and upscale accommodation, prices are generally higher throughout most of the center, so consider staying at a hostel to cut down on costs. Hostels typically offer a solid location in or near the city center at a fraction of the cost of a big chain.
