Art Museum Museum
The Sinebrychoff Art Museum is an art museum located on Bulevardi in Helsinki, Finland. The museum exhibits the old European art collections (dating between the 14th and 19th centuries) of the Finnish National Gallery. In addition, half of the museum acts as a historic house museum, displaying the 19th century estate of the Sinebrychoff family.HistoryThe building housing the museum was constructed in 1842 by the Russian businessman Nikolai Sinebryukhov, whose brewery, Sinebrychoff, operated in the western side of the premises until 1992. Nikolai himself did not live in the house, staying instead in Suomenlinna. His brother's family lived in the house, and his nephew, Paul, began an art collection. Paul continued to collect European art after being appointed head of the company in 1904. Along with his actress wife, Fanny Sinebrychoff, he amassed a collection of about 900 items, mostly paintings (100 by the Old Masters and approximately 350 portrait miniatures), but also including antique furniture, silverware, and porcelain.

  • Elegant House Museum that allows us to enter into the atmosphere of a rich collector at the end of the 19th century. Arranged with great taste, it is a very quiet Museum that offers a very pleasant visit. Among the exhibited works, highlight your beautiful picture of Rembrandt.

  • Sinebryhoffin Art Museum is always a pleasure to visit. The exhibition spaces are just the right large/limited to one visit-can manage to enjoy all of what they saw. Also upstairs in a private residence is evasion.

  • This was my second visit to this Museum. It's the lavish home of a super wealthy family that had the beer monopoly during the era Russia ruled Finland. Exquisite art and furniture. You can take a nice...  more »

  • A house like museum. Beautiful and elegant architecture and paintings. Almost as if one has been transported to the era of Renaissance.
  • Small with some great pieces of art. The current exhibition of Caesar van Everdingen is a must-see.
  • Some great art here, but it is very small.
  • Great changing exihibitions and nice home museum upstairs.
  • Amazing building with great collections.

Where to stay in Helsinki

Set yourself up with easy access to many of Helsinki's most popular tourist sites by staying in the city's bustling and modern center. You'll find that the area is packed full of shops, restaurants, and bars, plus it's conveniently close to both the city's main train station and energetic waterfront. Though there's certainly a range of options when it comes to big-name hotel chains and upscale accommodation, prices are generally higher throughout most of the center, so consider staying at a hostel to cut down on costs. Hostels typically offer a solid location in or near the city center at a fraction of the cost of a big chain.
