The Helsinki Cathedral, Government Palace, National Library of Finland, and main University of Helsinki building surround Senate Square and make up a collective vision of neoclassical design. This historical square boasts the architectural influence of Carl Ludvig Engel and is home to the oldest building in the city center, Sederholm House, built in 1757. Stroll the square to view these stately structures, stopping to take a seat on the cathedral's stairs and to examine the statue of Alexander II, a monument of Russian expansionism in Finland. The square hosts many events, including concerts and art exhibits. • Beautiful square with a cathedral on top. While the square itself doesn't have much, it's still a beautiful cathedral a top of the stairs which makes the climb worth it to see. Lots of tour buses which makes it crowded here. But you don't really need more than 20 minutes to see it. The surrounding shops are nice as it is located in the design district.
  • Beautiful little square with tons of tourists and even more gulls. There is a cool statue in the center of the square and a large church at the top of the steps that is very neat. Each of the streets is flanked by a tour busses and each of those tour busses pours in more people by the second. It is a bit hard to get a good picture, and it was probably the least interesting of any of the sites we've seen.
  • Imposing public area in the heart of the city. The steps provide a useful seating area to relax and watch the other tourists. It's a bit of a climb to the top of the steps. The Church is a striking building on the outside, but less interesting on the inside.
  • A nice square with very nice buildings around and a sculpture and a beautiful church. Many tourists come here to visit the church. It is 500 meters from the harbor.
  • Lovely city monument. Important tourist spot and a place where you can spend hours with a friend, family or alone. Good place to take pictures.
